If you want a summary of the book look at the description, as to not to spoil anything but ill just say a little about the authors style or something to that effect.

Another great book from ambrose ibsen he knows how make you sit on the edge of your seat filled with dread for what is surely to come. I personally enjoy the psychological approach, rather than simply mutilation which personally doesn't invoke anything other than disgust in myself. Its really hard to quantify what makes his stories great, he can impart the sense of the web being woven all around sometimes a glimmer of light shows through hope grows just to be mercilessly ripped away and realize things are far worse then could of been imagined already on the brink of despair. Even though i kind of hate the author for what he does to his characters without fail the ride is always brilliant unique not heavy handed. Check this book out you wont be disappointed and i guarantee it ll be better than my review

Great historical fiction definetly worth the credit. Researching the norman conquest of britain after starting th ebook (the term researching used very loosey) its fits its purpose in retelling the story based on what little of the original account that actally existed(at the time or suqsequently). I find that european history during this time is quite enthralling given that with every ascendancy to power atleast a few of the aspirants will be killed before hand or after, and being an heir more subject to a "mysterious:" early demise, or kidnapping or exile or all 3 in various order.

And for the performance.... its Simon Vance, need I say more. As always his performance is spot on not overly theatrical, no annoying shrill irritating inflections or croaking old ladys voices booming through.

All in all worth the credit if your leanings aren't delusional enough to preclude violence from nature.

i enjoyed most of the stories in this collection but a few stories in the middle the audio spikes up and down making it extremely irritating to listen to, i dont know how you guys allow simply garbage audio files get to your customers when anyone with a headset could record better quailty audio files for free. I tried the regular and high quality files and listening to it in the browser player its all the same bad recording...

Not unlistenable but very unprofessional.

Hes like a cathy dobson, and i simply cant listen to him hes a horrible narrator ill leave it at that because theres just so many things wrong with his performance this being said i do have the volume 2 and after listening to that no way could i go another 20+ hours with him. Play the sample if you dont mind his droning voice thisll be great but for me its a deal breaker.

Some truely gruesome stories! Does Lovecraft proud

And some are kind of meh, but definetly not bad just seem to be not fully developed where theyre heavy in the development of character surrounding relationships etc but then once the climax of the story is underway it gets glossed over. That being said there were only 2 and were still very worth while listen.

That being said there are also some hellishly monstorious stories that would make Lovecraft shudder perhaps, tho i prefer classic horror being that in some stories the eluding to the kids mom smoking meth being a whore her boyfriends package waving around under his boxers and shit like that just repels me back to the prosaic and vulgar.

That being said i dont want to say anything about the context of the stories and ruin them, but if your a fan lovecraft of clarck ashton smith or the horror stories of robert e howard youll love this just an absolute must listen.

Also it must be said the narrator does a great job in this.

Lovecraft is a timeless master of horror...

After listening to this I was hooked, coming from someone who was never a reader(27 now, and I guess technically still not haha) Ive began to seek out anything and everything of the sort . In the necronomicon there are amazing stories that differ greatly in the basis of there reality such as From the mountains of madness which outlined a expedition to the south pole with its sci-fi esque horror feel, to the case of charles dexter ward which has captures the feel a fleeting memory of in its time the antiquity of the east coast witch hunt sentiments rolling into a (then) present day embodiment and actuality of those fears pressed upon an unexpecting doctor to bare the realities of what was now scoffed at. Lovecraft stories simply must be experienced to appreciate a man with a truly great and unique mind. If only his life hadnt been cut short, who knows(Guy de maupausant reference) what new vistas we could of been allowed to peer upon.

An adequate continuation of Lovecrafts original

Being well versed in Lovecrafts works I can say it seems a semiplausible continuation. For anyone who hasn't already read "Herbert West -Reanimator" by H.P. Lovecraft I suggest doing so before listening to this as it is the basis for this book. Presuming that one has already the aforementioned reading done, this is a lukewarm sequel in my opinion. It seems like a possible follow up but, simply more of the same and the original being one of my least favorite Lovecraft works I give it a 4 as there's nothing wrong per se just not mind blowing. it's definitely worth the credit/listen tho not to detract from it as to say it's bad.

As a newly emerging fan of horror occult and medieval works of any nature predating 1930 (such as oscar wildes A Portrait of Dorian Grey, A few of Guy de Maupassant works which escape me at the momernt, all of lovecrafts works Van Goeths Faustus and searching for more of the like) I find thatl Howard captures an aspect of the primal unbridal wrath that stirs deep within the likes of the races he chroniclesn within. Conan is truly a larger than life character that at first seeing the name "Conan" stirred images of corny low budget scifi channel works i scoffed at.. But after listening to The Savage Tales of Soloman Kane and Horror Stories compilation if you will, was convinced this was worth the listen... I must say that, to me the entirety of the Conan works surpass to which i cannot understate how deeply i adore the works of Lovecraft. As far as the narration its spot on although i prefer a flatter to those who voices stretch too damn far to voice something that is obviously not meant to be sounded from their vocal cords, Todd Mclaren does a damn fine job

As a newly emerging "reader" / listener, with dark tastes this would be a steal at double the price... honestly pay homage to Howard and buy this.
