My least favorite Dan Abnett book so far
Revisado: 02-28-24
The performance is good, this actor is always great, but the story is really like a collection of short stories about the history of his team. There are too many characters to keep track of, and it's frankly not very interesting.

I really enjoyed this one, and again this voice actor is just unbelievably good. I wish he would go back and do the other sharpe novels that he did not narrate.

Historia
Critically acclaimed, perennial New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell (Agincourt, The Fort, the Saxon Tales) makes real history come alive in his breathtaking historical fiction. Praised as "the direct heir to Patrick O'Brian" (Agincourt, The Fort), Cornwell has brilliantly captured the fury, chaos, and excitement of battle as few writers have ever done—perhaps most vividly in his phenomenally popular novels following the illustrious military career of British Army officer Richard Sharpe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

Richard Sharpe. Soldier, hero, rogue—the man you always want on your side. Born in poverty, he joined the army to escape jail and climbed the ranks by sheer brutal courage. He knows no other family than the regiment of the 95th Rifles, whose green jacket he proudly wears.

Historia
The year is 2380. The Intersolar Commonwealth, a sphere of stars some 400 light-years in diameter, contains more than 600 worlds, interconnected by a web of transport "tunnels" known as wormholes. At the farthest edge of the Commonwealth, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the impossible: Over 1,000 light-years away, a star...vanishes. It does not go supernova. It does not collapse into a black hole. It simply disappears.

Problems with both the book and the recording
Revisado: 04-18-22
Hamilton desperately needs an editor. He'll give you 30 minutes of text where one sentence would tell the story. I never realized how over the top he is until I listened to his books rather than read them. You can't skim an audiobook.
On a whole other note, this recording is very problematic. The voice actor is great, but the recording desperately needs some type of audio compression because his loudest moments are very loud and is quietest moments are very quiet. It's very frustrating when you're listening to it in a car because if you turn it up to hear the quietest moments you're at risk of blowing your speakers.

From the author of the award-winning Altered Carbon, which is now an exciting new series from Netflix. On a Mars where ruthless corporate interests violently collide with a homegrown independence movement as Earth-based overlords battle for profits and power, Hakan Veil is an ex-professional enforcer equipped with military-grade body tech that's made him a human killing machine. But he's had enough, and all he wants is a ticket back home - which is just what he's offered by the Earth Oversight organization, in exchange for being the bodyguard for an EO investigator.

Classic Morgan
Revisado: 10-05-20
This is the first book I've read in years where I had to pry myself away from it. It's equal parts Gibson, Peckinpah, and Chandler, and is a return to the style of Altered Carbon. One thing to note is this book is particularly violent, which Morgan uses to depict the horrible reality of what could otherwise be a "fight scene".
Overall, Morgan has created a fascinating setting and a very memorable leading man. I can only hope he'll write more stories about the Black Hatch Man.
