Voice is way too childish -very annoying. And the POV changes every other paragraph so because I’m listening on Audible - that may be why. None of these characters resonated at all with me, and I get the impression there is an underlying political agenda here- not a fan and likely last time I will read her books -the first was fair- and so far, they seem to be getting worse and worse. No more by this author- surprised her author father didn’t help her stir this or tell her it just is not realistic story. Next please, bye.

The story is well-written but it often borders on preposterous -every character is unlikeable- I found it tough to root for an of them. The wrap-up in the end of an obviously horrific crime scene which required zero investigation and deemed an accident within a day to the funeral encounter with the mother-in-law made me angry I’d wasted hours of time I won’t get back.

Apparently the author is so convinced this is a great MC that it’s a series of several books - I imagine it’s a “Dexter” housekeeper now hired by women who want their husbands dead. Considering there are several books with same MC getting away with nefarious crimes and murders when she’d already served a ten year sentence after a tonnage murder conviction. So, I won’t be following this series or the author any longer. Just too predictable, repetitious and honestly, not thrilling at all.

So bad…

I absolutely could not handle the main characters voice - so totally annoying - and the mother was deplorable - a total bi*** who dud not deserve her kid or her husband. Perhaps he was a weaker character but he was decent and truly loved his child-and I absolutely loved Grandma Ruth - sadly, I hoped mom would ultimately redeem herself by giving herself up instead of her innocent daughter -leaving Belle with her dad and Ruth.

So many grammatical issues as well. And the dogs? Was that for filler?? And those neighbors who threw them out? That was pretty bad but if I had a new baby, I may have done the same thing - so, when gets so angry with them - cursing at them and becoming so vile -I instantly hated her from that point on - she was so selfish throughout the entire story - how she survives and (SPOILER!!) Belle apparently does not - is selfish on the authors part. Then I saw it was written by a male and some of the ways be dealt so poorly with the female characters made some sense on an “ignorant on his part” level.

Otherwise - do not waste your money or time - almost a DNF - o my stuck with it hoping good would win out - it does not - and not even a decent twist. Saw it coming but figured no way would author do that.

Too predictable - **spoiler alert**

I was hoping for way more tension between Aaron and the MC - can’t even recall her name. And what is the chance that two best friends would have same female cancers within 5 years of the other - one knew/ the other did not but c’mon and how is it never really addressed - I really thought it would turn out they were sisters somehow. Could be organ donors. One has the others baby - So it just ends with what’s her name dating other men - and after mediocre sex, plans too meet for lunch with every so often?? What??? What exactly was that the twist in the end? Based on the write-ups, I’m thinking frozen embryos that what’s her name would somehow make their own baby. Had the writer made the end twist even better than my ideas running around my car (commute=audio) id have loved it, when a book takes the carpet right out from under me - I love that ie. The Secrets that Save Us -so many twists you’ll feel like Chubby Checker.

Was the twist the surprise apartment collaboration? I just couldn’t believe I figured it out so soon and was actually right. I regret it was not worth the credit.

I read this coming off the heels of Where the Forest Meets the Stars so in all fairness- WFMS was my favorite read since start of Covid and I read close to 100 books a year. That story has a whirling dervish flipping pages for you!! Check it out. This one - not so.

Simply one of the very best books of immersive non-fiction in any genre I’ve ever read - that says a lot bc I love memoirs and biographies - so far my favorite.

Excellent page-turner!

I could not put this book down. It’s brilliant with so many twists - one of the first books I’ve read where I can honestly say there are no fillers. You will be gobsmacked by every chapter!

Awesome

This is one of my favorite reads in the past couple of years! It's tough to critique this incredibly unique story-line - suffice it to say this is a real page turner and extremely well-written. I don't want to give away anything but I read a book every few days and I was so engrossed in the story and the main character that I was sad to let him go in the end and close the book. Just read it - you'll thank me.
