These two books are great if you want to get into fantasy that's not extremely well-known or overly complex.

The stories feel cinematic and the performances are amazing. Great characters & great dialogue.

enjoyable but a bit generic

I may just be tired of zombies and the offshoots of such but this is very much The Last of Us (or TLOU is very much this) but with more characters. Nothing really to complain about but nothing really to praise either. It's a story you've heard before.

It's fine but nothing special

Definitely has the makings of one of those horror movies that makes it to streaming but has a grand total of two jump scares.

The pieces of a Stephen King style story are there but they are peppered with eye rolling teen drama that really makes you question why you got this book.

stay for character dev & fresh take on aliens

overall it's good writing. character development is really solid. it is slow though, and toward the middle it becomes a bit of a slog. once you approach the final act my interest was peaked again but the ending seemed too rushed almost like he had a page limit, which i suppose is possible but i doubt it was that strict. if you're a fan of AW its worth checking out but id personally go with The Martian & Artemis first.

this was a mess...

I love Star Wars and I'm sorry to say this was one of the sloppiest entries to the new canon. I respect the deep dive into the experiences & PTSD of both Rebels & Imperials but this book feels like it only exists to force (no pun intended) connections & produce cameos. The story is all over the place & is hard to follow. The four (?) main characters are bland and unfortunately written in such a way that makes it extremely hard to feel anything for them. I understand this series is a crossover with a comic but this was just not up to par. I'm not comparing it to the old EU but I do want a good story and one that doesn't feel shoehorned into the saga. Disney needs to stop scraping the bottom of the barrel for these books. Just let the authors write stories that have nothing to do with the movies. If that is what it takes to get a good plot in this medium so that isn't shoved into the timeline wherever there is a little space, so be it. At least High Republic is somewhat allowed that freedom. Audio production & voice acting was terrific as usual.

Some good, some bad

While I really enjoyed the political allusions to our modern society & landscape, there were chapters where characters & plot points just feel lost.

I very much like this new type of villain, especially the tension & future set up at the end but it really took almost 75% of the story for me to see them as a Star Wars-worthy threat.

Another issue was too many characters, I barely understood who was who.

good but not much of an ending

Few SW stories in this era have definitive endings. it is frustrating. this is obviously is due to the fact that the stories cannot create continuity issues with the films, though this one caused at least two. regardless, thrawn and vader working together was very interesting to experience. i do hope we see thrawn in one of the disney plus shows.

Wish I Got The Full Story

Became very lost due to the large chunks of story missing. Abridged versions of books can be bad but this was especially RUFF.
