Rep. Massie is now my FAVORITE!
Revisado: 10-15-24
I enjoyed this interview so much. I have heard of Rep. Massie, but nothing of interest really. This interview was so good - it was interesting and laugh out loud funny! What a guy!

Short story format wasn't for me
Revisado: 10-06-24
I enjoy Elin Hilderbrand's books. It must be the character and story development that occurs in a her book format that I enjoy so much. I just thought this story was bad, cliche and predictable. I feel bad saying that it was not credit-worthy.

Historia
Maeve Binchy imagined a street in Dublin with many characters coming and going, and every once in a while she would write about one of these people. She would then put it in a drawer; “for the future,” she would say. The future is now. Across town from St. Jarlath’s Crescent, featured in Minding Frankie, is Chestnut Street, where neighbors come and go. Behind their closed doors we encounter very different people with different life circumstances, occupations, and sensibilities.

I wanted to love Chestnut Street
Revisado: 05-09-24
I loooove Maeve Binchy books. What I love in particular is how she writes to establish the characters and then I relish the wait in learning how everyone’s lives are intertwined. And while the residents of Chestnut Street were all set up I waited and waited but I was disappointed that there was never really an event that brought everyone together. That said - it was still an enjoyable listen and I still loooove Maeve Binchy.

Historia
Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

Pretty amazing story!

It was a very amazing story. I was somewhat disappointed in that once she got to Hollywood there was less detail and story. And after she created the radio system the story was just glossed over - the personal and professional.

Revisado: 11-04-12
I saw the trailer for the movie coming out so I was interested in listening to this book. It is very different than my usual listening choices and it turned out to be a real listening pleasure. I was entranced by Pi - his common sense, resourcefulness and faith. I loved the writing style of this writer - it was very descriptive. It made for excellent listening and envisioning the life and trials of Pi.

Revisado: 11-04-12
Would you listen to Slim and Sexy Forever again? Why?
Yes, I will listen to it again. There is a lot of information to absorb so I am sure that I missed much during the first listen.
What other book might you compare Slim and Sexy Forever to and why?
I have not read anything regarding bioidentical hormones before this book. There is a lengthy portion regarding her Somercize Diet recommendations. What Makes Us Fat - this is a similar read. The author of What Makes Us Fat is about Protein and Fat in the diet and the harmful affects of Carbohydrates in the diet. Suzanne Somers does not recommend cutting out Carbohydrates completely - she advocates adding good Carbohydrates back into the diet after excess weight has been lost.
Which character – as performed by Suzanne Somers – was your favorite?
Suzanne Somers does a good job narrating her book. One can definitely hear her passion for this subject. Sometimes she speaks so rapidly that I had to back up a listen to a passage again.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
N/A
Any additional comments?
A pdf file would be helpful to accompany this book. There is so much information shared regarding bioidentical hormones and diet, I will have to take notes during my next listen or by a hardcopy book.

Historia
> The Chaperone is a captivating novel about the woman who chaperoned an irreverent Louise Brooks to New York City in 1922, and the summer that would change them both. Only a few years before becoming a famous actress and an icon for her generation, a 15-year-old Louise Brooks leaves Wichita to make it big in New York. Much to her annoyance, she is accompanied by a thirty-six-year-old chaperone who is neither mother nor friend. Cora Carlisle is a complicated but traditional woman with her own reasons for making the trip.

A character you will always remember
Revisado: 09-19-12
What made the experience of listening to The Chaperone the most enjoyable?
I liked Cora so much - her optimism, determination, wisdom and care for others.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Chaperone?
I would have to give parts of the story away by mentioning the memorable moments.
What about Elizabeth McGovern’s performance did you like?
I thought that the narration was very good however at times Cora sounded a bit to "Fargo"/country bumpkin.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I didn't want to listen to it all in one sitting - but I enjoyed getting back to it each day.

I wanted to love this book - but could not.
Revisado: 09-19-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. I wanted to love this book. I always enjoyed the interviews I had seen and heard. I enjoyed his quick wit, breadth of knowledge and his sarcasm during those interviews. While listening to this book - I was just ready for it to be over. He told his life story by describing major relationships in his life - many of them were not so interesting.
Has Hitch-22 turned you off from other books in this genre?
No
What three words best describe Christopher Hitchens’s performance?
Smug, Self-aggrandizing, Cold
What else would you have wanted to know about Christopher Hitchens’s life?
I would have liked to know more about his relationships with his wife and children.
Any additional comments?
It was impressive to hear about all his travels and the opportunities that he had as a student and young adult - his role as a young and active socialist played a major part in that, but I was impressed by his industriousness and drive.

Revisado: 07-31-12
Would you try another book from Amor Towles and/or Rebecca Lowman?
Sure, I would probably try another.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Rushed - but I was pleased with the ending.
What aspect of Rebecca Lowman’s performance would you have changed?
Nothing
Could you see Rules of Civility being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Kate - Sandra Bullock
Tinker - Brad Pitt
Eve - Charlize Theron
Any additional comments?
I realize this book represented a different class, is set in New York City and is fiction - but I would question so many women being unchaperoned and having sex during that era.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No, I would not recommend this book. It really lacked any story other than two young adults secretly lust for each other. Can he betray his best friend by desiring the best friend's widow? Can she really be thinking these thoughts about her Best Friend - worse yet, her dead husband's Best Friend?
