Historia
Jimmy Propfield joined the army for two reasons: to get out of Mobile, Alabama, with his best friends Hank and Billy and to forget his high school sweetheart, Claire. Life in the Philippines seems like paradise—until the morning of December 8, 1941, when news comes from Manila: the Japanese have bombed Pearl Harbor. Within hours, the teenage friends are plunged into war as Japanese warplanes attack Luzon, beginning a battle for control of the Pacific Theater that will culminate with a last stand on the Bataan Peninsula and end with the largest surrender of American troops in history.

Felt like I was watching it happen.
Revisado: 06-17-24
The Long March Home. My goodness this one hurt. The unrequited love, love between friends, and growing from boys into men. I felt the words of regret, grief, and loss. The death of Cowboy and difficulty of Jimmy and his father's relationship. The redemption, the forgiveness, the selflessness, and the love between men only forged during times like war was well and beautifully communicated. Billy's encouragement to Hank and Prop to not come back, his attempt to give his life for his best friends so that they might live. Hank and Jimmy saving each other and willingness to die for one another and love for Claire. Decisions made both right and wrong. So much loss and pain. Hank's willingness to risk and ultimately give his own life for others (43) including Jimmy is the kind of love that Christ says for which there is no greater love. War sucks. Love conquers all. Beautiful story. The men who lived and died on Bataan and Corrigidor deserve to be remembered and honored.

Historia
October 8, 1918: Amid the last of the Allies' attempts to defeat the Germans, Sgt. Alvin York of Tennessee found himself and his platoon of only 17 men trapped in the thick of heavy machine gun fire. Rather than retreating or calling upon the artillery to take out the nest, York single-handedly took out 25 Germans, dropping them one by one, and captured many more. This is one of the many tales of York's famed heroism, which were heralded as some of the most impressive battle stories in the history of modern warfare. Sergeant York contains the legendary soldier's war diaries.

An example of a Christian man
Revisado: 07-15-23
I loved listening to this man read. He told Alvin York's story from Alvin's point of view and did an excellent job of using his dialect. I feel that this is an excellent example of what can happen by truly trusting in the Lord.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

This is a well researched and well written series of books. I found it difficult to to stop listening when I had to do something else. I felt like I was watching the events take place as I listened.. Not many authors arcauthors are capable of engaging the reader at this level and I greatly appreciate his level of storytelling skills. His level of storytelling skills.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

I enjoyed this book immensely. The narration is unique and some would probably call it a bit goofy but it does an excellent job of communicating the story.. The brotherly love and self sacrifice communicated in this is something we can all hope to hope to rise to.

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

It moved me in my soul
Revisado: 02-17-20
Listen to this book.
I traveled to Europe the year after the wall came down and visited Auschwitz during that time. I remember walking around and observing the evidence of inhumanity and the simplicity of the terror of being robbed of loved ones and all that you hold dear. The hairbrushes, eyeglasses, luggage, clothing, hair, and shoes that were left behind and on display that were once owned by walklng, talking, laughing, and loving human beings told stories I could never put into words. This story did an incredible job of allowing me to see these lives through a descendants' eyes. Kelly Rimmer's story of undying loves across years is one I will listen to again and recommend to everyone (as I've already been doing).

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

A beautiful book that touched me to my core
Revisado: 09-20-19
There are books that capture our interest, books that teach us about ourselves, books that spark our imagination, and books that touch us in our souls. Where the crawdads sing did all of this to me and more. I've never been touched by a book like this one has touched me. I can't say enough good about how well written this book is so I will just say this. Stop reading what you're reading now and read this book. You'll wish you'd read it sooner and you'll read it or listen to it again and again. What a beautiful story. I take my hat off to Delia Owens and in fact I'll be writing her a personal letter to let her know how much this affected me. May we find more Kyas and Jumpin's, Mabels and Scuppers, Tates and Jodies in this world then we find Chases.

Revisado: 08-25-19
Some writers have the knack to communicate what they're writing in such a way that you feel that you are a part of it and you feel it's believable. David Walton to me is one of those authors. This book made me think a lot about the subject matter in it. Very well done, I'll listen to it again.

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.
