I loved this book. I’m a huge fan of this author and enjoy pretty much everything she writes. But why is no one double checking narrator pronunciation? All of the word of French origin were pronounced incorrectly. Was no one checking to make sure these narrators knew how to pronounce chaise and fillet? Takes me right out of the story.

Love the plot but the author didn’t do her research

I love Elle Kennedys books but her Haitian character was obviously not researched at all. Haitians don’t speak French or talk with a French accent. They speak creole. A totally different language that was a mix of African and French languages developed as a result of the transatlantic slave trade. The narrator uses a French accent every time Cassie’s step mother speaks but if she was really Haitian she would not speak french. While Cassies stepsisters may go to a French school, they would most certainly speak creole in the home, not French. These are very important details that deserve to be given time and attention if you are going to have a character from another culture than your own.
