It is now six years since the secret disaster at Jurassic Park, six years since the extraordinary dream of science and imagination came to a crashing end - the dinosaurs destroyed, the park dismantled, the island indefinitely closed to the public. But there are rumors that something has survived.

Waaaaay better and totally different than the movie
Revisado: 08-24-24
I think The Lost World is a lot better than Jurassic Park when talking specifically about the books. There is a lot more action in this one than Jurassic Park because the exposition is a lot shorter in this one. I would also say it is necessary to read Jurassic Park to understand Malcolm to the full extent.

Historia
Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

I wish there was 6 stars for performance
Revisado: 03-08-22
It really is that good. In actuality Laurence Fishburne doesn't sound much like Malcolm X did but it was performed so well I really felt like Malcom X was sitting next to me talking about his past.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Andy Weir still amazing
Revisado: 08-19-21
Hard to imagine a 20ish hour long audio book feeling too short. There is more "fiction" to the science fiction with the advent of "astrophage" and "xenonite" so it is different from Artemis and the Martian in that respect but there needs to be some kind of plot device for these types of scifi novels. I happen to love how the science of the unknown is handled I this story. Sound effects and editing are used quite ingeniously and the narration style is spot on. I do wish there was an epilogue from the perspective of Stratt.

70 years old and still relevant
Revisado: 08-18-20
When Asimov wrote this book he was talking about robots but the concepts are exactly the same as the issues we face while developing AI. Asimov was so far ahead of his time it is amazing. Also, Greg and Mike are amazing characters.

Michael Pollan, known for his best-selling nonfiction audio, including The Omnivores Dilemma and How to Change Your Mind, conceived and wrote Caffeine: How Caffeine Created the Modern World as an Audible Original. In this controversial and exciting listen, Pollan explores caffeine’s power as the most-used drug in the world - and the only one we give to children (in soda pop) as a treat.

Not quite what I expected
Revisado: 02-19-20
I expected to hear more about the pharmacology and physiological effects of caffeine. It was still an interesting listen but a better title would be something along the lines of "the history of tea and coffee and my experience". I would have preferred a more objective approach.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Thrawn is a great character
Revisado: 02-26-19
A great story in the Star Wars Galaxy with a phenomenal performance and amazing production value. The voice acting, voice filters, and sound effects are really immersive. The only reason I can't give 5 stars for the story is because the many flashbacks telling Anakin's story during the clone wars pulled me out of the moment when switching timelines.

Read it/listen even if you saw the movie
Revisado: 11-18-18
Really fantastic story with amazing pacing. Will Wheaton is a fantastic voice actor who totally sucks you in. The events of the book are very different from the movie so the only real spoiler is good guys win and bad guys lose. The story is not that realistic but you are reading the wrong book if that is what you are expecting.

Great intrigue
Revisado: 09-25-18
Compared to the first two foundation books, the plot follows a more continuous narrative with fewer characters and timelines. The overall story arc from the first two books is extremely important so reading straight through from the previous books is recommended. The book is like one big puzzle putting itself together finally finishing with pieces from all three books falling into place creating a beautiful, intricate tapestry of events and people. You will have to suspend disbelief a good amount in terms of mind control that goes much further than the other Foundation books.
