Much better than the first book

I really enjoyed how the Once upon a Con universe deepened in this book with flashes of characters from the first book and new characters introduced. I also really enjoyed the character development of both main characters (especially Jess who I initially disliked).

I have listened to this book three times now and each time find myself engrossed by the characters and story. The world building is excellent, the characters well rounded and the story satisfying.
If you like urban fantasy with humour and emotional depth this is a great pick.
The narration is also excellent with each character being easily recognizable in intonation.

A fun clean scooby-doo type romp

The thing I love most about Drew Hayes’s books are the characters - they are always well developed and relatable (though odd). I also love the play on expectations and the sense of humour.
This book has great characters and a fun spooky but not scary mystery to unravel.
Totally enjoyable and I eagerly anticipate the next instalment!

A story steeped in rape culture

I tried to like this story but couldn’t get over the squick factor of the lead male constantly ignoring the “no’s” of the lead female.
Yes she was physically enjoying the attention but there was no respect for her decisions. It isn’t romantic it’s stalking. It isn’t romantic to show up uninvited to a dorm room at 7am it is breaking and entering. The conceit that it is okay because he’s hot and she thinks he’s hot is not cool. This type of fiction is why guys think a “no” isn’t always a no and why girls think it isn’t rape if she orgasmed. Consent is important. Stories are important. This one propagates rape culture.

A weak beginning but awesome characters

This is the weakest of Drew Hayes’ books in my opinion - only because the style is of several short stories smushed together vs a cohesive novel. That said each story is well crafted and the characters are great. Having read the others in the series I can say they get even more enjoyable as the series progresses with less of the repetition that makes this book a bit of a challenge.

Well crafted story which skillfully draws you in. A great sequel to the previous two stories. I loved the basic premise and am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series.
