Historia
Winter blankets the land, and more than just hope has died. Prevented from invading the Fhrey homeland by the tower of Avempartha, the western army seeks a way across the Nidwalden River before the fane obtains the secret of dragons. As time runs out for both humanity and the mystic Suri, the only chance for the living rests with the dead. Having made their fateful choice, can a handful of misfits do the impossible, or are they forever lost to an inescapable grave? Do gods truly exist? Is it possible to know the future? And what lies beyond the veil of death?

Tedious. Skip this book, it’s a shameless way to extract money.
Revisado: 04-24-20
To begin with I’ve listened to and loved all of MJS’s books and rated them 5-Stars. That is until this one which seems to be a shameless and oh so boring way to add a few extra filler books to simply make more money from additional book sales. With the exception of the Suri narrative (gets a star) it was painful and taxing to listen to the endless telling of one magical event after another and the incomprehensible history of too many peoples and civilizations. This book did accomplish something I didn’t think possible. It made me lose interest in the central characters and I could care less if they were killed, or not. Worse yet, it made me lose a great deal of regard for MJS as an author. As bad as I felt this book is, the afterword reached a level of self-serving drivel that borders on the supernatural. I have preordered the sixth book. I’m wondering if I can get my Audible credit back. I simply don’t have the endurance for another book as unfathomable as this.

Glen Runciter runs a lucrative business - deploying his teams of anti-psychics to corporate clients who want privacy and security from psychic spies. But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Soon, though, the surviving members of the team begin experiencing some strange phenomena, such as Runciter's face appearing on coins and the world seeming to move backward in time.

Tedious, boring and pointless. Didn’t care about any of the characters. Storyline is a yawn. I’m not sure what the rave reviews are for. Sheer will enabled me to finish this story. Not the enjoyment of listening.

The alliance of humans and renegade Fhrey is fragile - and about to be tested as never before. Persephone keeps the human clans from turning on one another through her iron will and a compassionate heart. The arrogant Fhrey are barely held in check by their leader, Nyphron, who seeks to advance his own nefarious agenda through a loveless marriage that will result in the betrayal of the person Persephone loves most: Raithe, the God Killer.

Multiple wonderful uplifting segments
Revisado: 08-22-18
Most books seem to have the main character(s) face continuing and growing hurdles and resolve to a conclusion only at the end. MJS books have multiple characters you come to genuinely care about individually and whose adventures and challenges resolve satisfactorily throughout the story. Although the main theme of each book resolves at the conclusion, you will have so many uplifting moments as you read or listen. MJS is a superb storyteller as well as having a real understanding of the crafts and sciences that are so much a part of this series. Couple that with his philosophical depth and you have one of the most engaging, intelligent authors. The narrator is equal to the skill of the author and breathes life into each character. The only regret is that MJS releases this series one book a year. I’ve read all his other book series and will be starved for an MJS book until next June.

Wonderful story satisfying ending.
Revisado: 05-03-17
Fundamentally this is a road trip adventure between a grizzly old warrior and a traumatized young girl during the tumultuous period immediately after the Civil War. It's written (and read) superbly well with two lead characters you will come to love and an entirely satisfying ending.

Another Uplifting Shute Novel
Revisado: 02-14-16
Totally satisfying novel of one man going to extraordinary lengths to resurrect a dying town. Few writers capture the indomitable human spirit as does Nevil Shute. I've read many of his books and this is one of his best. The narrator is also perfect for the book.

Historia
Andrew Yancy—late of the Miami Police and soon-to-be-late of the Monroe County sheriff’s office—has a human arm in his freezer. There’s a logical (Hiaasenian) explanation for that, but not for how and why it parted from its shadowy owner. Yancy thinks the boating-accident/shark-luncheon explanation is full of holes, and if he can prove murder, the sheriff might rescue him from his grisly Health Inspector gig (it’s not called the roach patrol for nothing).

Fantastic! Actual events surpass spy novels.
Revisado: 11-25-15
For a personal narrative of actual events, this reads better than most spy novels by even the masters of their craft. You'll gain a superb understanding of how today's Russian leaders react to events and how a few Russians stole a large portion of their country's wealth. The narrator is also excellent.

Historia
Captain Kidd has gone down in history as America's most ruthless buccaneer. However, Captain William Kidd was no career cut-throat; he was a tough, successful New York sea captain who was hired to chase pirates. Across the oceans of the world, the pirate hunter, Kidd, pursued the pirate, Culliford. One man would hang in the harbor; the other would walk away with the treasure. The Pirate Hunter is both a masterpiece of historical detective work and a page-turner.

Extraordinary researched history makes for a stirring book.
Revisado: 11-09-15
The real story of Captain Kidd, unveiled in this book through extraordinary research and brilliantly told, shows how politicians, bureaucrats and the greed of worlds must successful multinational corporation (The British East India Company) were the genuine pirates.
You'll get a sense of the times and lives of sailors, pirates, British seaman, British aristocrats and businessmen, and the world they populated. You'll get a taste of sea battles and legal skirmishes -- the latter which turn out to be more deadly.
This is a highly detailed book that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you're not into knowing that much information, or you want a "swashbuckling" story, this may not be for you.

Tedious, a painful, boring listen. But superb narration.
Revisado: 10-02-15
Having listened to and enjoyed other Tami Hoag books I was quite surprised at how tedious, contrived and outright boring this book was. It is part very badly conceived romance novel and coupled with a poorly constructed and in satisfying police story.
If it had been half as long it might have been half as painful to endure and not lose a moment of storyline (nor suffer with Irrelevant tangents and inconsequential characters introduced to fill unneeded pages).
I listened to the end -- through hours of a female cop mentally abused by inadequate male cops -- just to see if I might be able to endure it, with a minor interest in how it might thankfully come to and end. I simply lost all concern for any of the characters. This was particularly apparent when at the stories conclusion you realize that not one of the cops actually solved any crimes in this wretched story.
The only bright spot was the absolutely superb narration of Karen Peakes. Rarely does a female narrator get the male voices as well as she did. And, the female voices were distinct and characterized very well.

Meet Zoe and Greg Milton, a married couple who have let themselves go a bit. Zoe was a stunner in her college days, but the intervening decades have added five stone, and removed most of her self-esteem. Greg's rugby-playing days are well and truly behind him, thanks to countless pints of beer and chicken curry. When Elise, a radio DJ and Zoe's best friend, tells them about a new competition, it seems like the perfect opportunity to turn their lives around.

It doesn't get better than this book!
Revisado: 07-28-15
Laugh out loud hysterical writing read by two of the most astonishingly good narrators. Anyone overweight will relate. And be inspired. Equally enjoyable for the underweight. You'll gain understanding. Throw away all the absurd diet books and costly prepared diet meals. Just listen to this book. In fact, I'm going to listen to it again. I am so glad I got this book. So will you. Really.
