Still Banks, But Disappointing
Revisado: 10-17-16
Would you try another book from Peter Robinson and/or Simon Prebble?
I have read or listened to all of these books, and will keep doing so.
If you’ve listened to books by Peter Robinson before, how does this one compare?
This one misses the mark. No mention is made of his 2 children and next to nothing about his personal life. Those are things that make these stories especially interesting.
Which character – as performed by Simon Prebble – was your favorite?
Hard to say. Let's just note that Prebble is a master.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Probably not. The two crime threads aren't things I want to see. Listening to what those awful people did was enough.
Any additional comments?
I hope future books are more in line with the way earlier episodes of Banks and his famiily are depicted.

Great in every way, a must for classical music fan

I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book about this remarkable artist. The narrator was outstanding. He removed the barrier between author and listener. It was as if the author was the narrator.

Historia
On a hot July morning on Sweden's idyllic vacation island of Sandhamn, a man takes his dog for a walk and makes a gruesome discovery: a body, tangled in fishing net, has washed ashore. Police detective Thomas Andreasson is the first to arrive on the scene. Before long, he has identified the deceased as Krister Berggren, a bachelor from the mainland who has been missing for months. All signs point to an accident - until another brutalized corpse is found at the local bed-and-breakfast.

Kept my attention, but...

I love Swedish mysteries, and have at least cruised through Stockholm's archipelago. I won't do a spoiler but merely note that the author pulled out an all too common solution. Narration was excellent.

Before Pedro Martinez was the eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner, and World Series champion, before stadiums full of fans chanted his name, he was just a little kid from the Dominican Republic who sat under a mango tree and dreamed of playing pro ball. Now, in Pedro, the charismatic and always colorful pitcher opens up for the first time to tell his remarkable story.

Great Story from a Superb Athlete
Revisado: 09-07-15
Pedro is a one of a kind. I enjoyed learning about his background and his accounts of his travels from his first signing to the HOF. On one hand I don't understand how he can hold certain grudges for decades, but at least he admits to having them. On the down side, the narrator seems to know nothing about the game given how he pronounces certain things (such as won-loss records), and he repeatedly calls former Red Sox catcher Scott Hatteberg as if his name was Hattenberg. But all in all, it is an audiobook worth listening for fans.

Historia
Kansas City Lightning: The Rise and Times of Charlie Parker is the first installment in the long-awaited portrait of one of the most talented and influential musicians of the twentieth century, from Stanley Crouch, one of the foremost authorities on jazz and culture in America. Throughout his life, Charlie Parker personified the tortured American artist: A revolutionary performer who used his alto saxophone to create a new music known as bebop even as he wrestled with a drug addiction that would lead to his death at the age of thirty-four.

Outstanding in Every Way
Revisado: 06-11-14
This account of Charlie Parker's early years is so well done and narrated that I would say that the audible version of Stanley Crouch's book is a must. It brings the history and the artist to life in a way that only reading the words can't do. It isn't that often that you don't want a book to end but this is such a book. I eagerly await the 2nd volume. And I certainly hope that the same narrator is used. Kevin Kenerly is fantastic.

A nine-year-old boy is found murdered at the bottom of a well near a popular beach resort in southern Italy. Faced with small-town racism, Guido attempts to exploit the esoteric workings of the Italian courts. The voice of Sean Barrett brings this gritty Italian detective series to life.

Interesting story . . . Superb narration
Revisado: 12-09-13
What made the experience of listening to Involuntary Witness the most enjoyable?
A mystery presented in manner I have not come across before, wherein the defendant's attorney gives an account from his perspective.
What about Sean Barrett’s performance did you like?
He was so good I didn't mind a British accent reading a book set in Italy. His voicings for different characters were very good. I might not even have stayed with the book except for him, as it starts quite slowly.
Any additional comments?
Without giving anything away suffice it to say that I could see where it was going as the case developed. I'm not sure I would have read the book, but Sean Barrett kept me more interested than the mere text would have done.
