There are missing woman in Boston and Detective Didi Warren is on the case. She is still on restricted duty from a prior injury but that didn't stop her. One of the missing girls, Flora, was kidnapped several years ago and is now on a mission to help other missing women. Florida is a little soft I'm sore but considering she had been kidnapped for more than 500 days, it's understandable. The story goes back-and-forth between the present and her kidnapped days but it's an interesting plot. I read the audio version and it kept me distracted from rush hour traffic to and from work. If you're looking for easy reading notwithstanding the dark subject, and you're a fan of Lisa Gardner and Detective Warren, you won't be disappointed. Once again narrated by Kirsten Potter and she is great.

Would you consider the audio edition of Sudden Death to be better than the print version?

Yes, because Grover Gardner is very good as Andy Carpenter, much better than I ever could have imagined. No one could take his place now.

What did you like best about this story?

Another Andy Carpenter murder mystery -- that's the best! This is a great series. I read the audio book (which is what I do most of the time). This book was abridged so it was shorter than usual but still entertaining. The narrator, Grover Gardner, is just so good as the main character and I can really relate to his sense of humor. Easy, entertaining reading/listening. And such good plots.sub-plots,

Which scene was your favorite?

I can't say anything without revealing a spoiler but I like the way things come together when you least expect it. Although this book was somewhat predictable, I still enjoyed it but I would not rate it at the top of David Rosenfelt's books.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, although I did sit in my car several times at the end of chapters to listen when there was only a minute or two remaining.

Any additional comments?

All I do these days is audio books and this narrator, Grover Gardner, is excellent in the role of Andy Carpenter. If you like wise-cracks, sarcasm, humor and easy listening, this series is for you!

Where does Dead Center rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A better question would be, "where does the series lead among the audiobooks" -- this was not one of my favorites of Mr. Rosenfelt's but it was still enjoyable. Laurie and Andy are reunited when Laurie requests help on a case after she returned to her home town of Findlay, Wisconsin to live.

What did you like best about this story?

That Laurie and Andy were reunited. They are made for each other; no one else could put up with him and he needs someone to take care of him, which she does well. Plus all the returning characters, Sam, Vince, Willie, Sondra, with a dog or two thrown in. And a good sense of humor and an excellent narrator!

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

What's not to like?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My only fear is that someone will someday replace him which is not acceptable.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not a moment but just the way the story was written, my questions were answered, the ending wasn't obvious . . . the usual!

Any additional comments?

Keep 'em coming!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Witness to be better than the print version?

Yes, the narrator was very good. I used to read Nora Roberts when I was younger and wanted romance and good vs. evil (not to say I don't, but let's just say I was a much younger girl then) and I hadn't read Ms. Roberts' books in over 20 years. I bought it on sale and was surprised that it was so good at that price. But not to be misleading, after an initial bit of drama, it was all romance! But the hero characters were very likable.

What did you like best about this story?

Without giving it away, the ending. I had thought of something close but didn't guess it and that was another surprise. And the dog, of course, Bert!

Have you listened to any of Julia Whelan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I had never listened to her books before but I definitely enjoyed her. Thanks for reminding me of her name; I'll be more on the lookout for her now.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't want to give it away but I loved all the banter. And finally when a meeting of the minds took place!

Any additional comments?

Like I said, a surprisingly good read. It was entertaining, more for the female gender, and I was finished with the book before I knew it. I like a little more drama now but I remember that all Nora Roberts' books were good when I read them.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. This was my least favorite of the Harry Bosch series. It felt like it was a rushed story and, to be honest, the narrator was so foreign in the voice of Harry that it took me probably a third of the way through before I got used to it. But Mr. Connelly does entertain and I did easily finish the book.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

No reaction as it wasn't really a surprise. I had pretty much figured out the ending before I got to it.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I don't know that the narrator could have done much. When you've listened to all Harry Bosch books and you get used to a certain narrator, like Dick Hill or Scott Brick, who are excellent, it's what you come to expect. I wonder if this narrator was familiar with the main narrator who has done most of the series (Dick Hill).

The only other worse narrator for me in the Bosch series was the book narrated by Burt Reynolds. That was the worst.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

While I could see most of Mr. Connelly's other books as major movies, this was more like a TV movie.

Any additional comments?

Still looking forward to the next Harry Bosch novel; this won't stop me.

What did you love best about Criminal?

Everything! This was the first time I had read a book by this author and did not realize it was the 6th in a series. I intend to go back and read the former books but I usually like to read them in order if I am following a character. Having said that, I loved the way the present ran into the past and how things were connected. This book goes into a lot of Will Trent's personal family history so it probably answers a lot of questions in the former books but it was a very enjoyable read.

What other book might you compare Criminal to and why?

Typical good vs. evil but variations along. Also, from a female's perspective and from a male's perspective. The characters were flawed at the beginning of the book but I really liked them so much more at the end and it explained a lot of each character's behavior. Can't think of any book I would compare this to but I will be reading more Karin Slaughter books.

Which character – as performed by Kathleen Early – was your favorite?

All of them. I guess I would say Lucy first because she was the first one who made an impression on me. Amanda Wagner seems so cold at first but I ended up liking her once I understood what had helped make her what she is today. Gotta admire her. Also, the love of the doctor for Will; she always stood by him. I had never read anything by this narrator before either and wasn't sure I would enjoy a female narrator but no disappointment there.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had time I could have. I listed to it every opportunity I could.

Any additional comments?

Very nice surprise never having read anything by this author before. Catapulted her up on my list.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, and I have indeed recommended it. Mr. Coben has a reputation and he very rarely lets his standards down. I can relate to that. This book did not disappoint. I had it figured out before the end but it was still a worthwhile read. And who doesn't love Scott Brick's narration?

What other book might you compare Stay Close to and why?

I haven't really thought about any other similar book. Three characters from very different backgrounds with a shared past meet by extenuating circumstances again to solve a mystery that occurred years ago. I'm sure there are other similar stories out there but, for me, it's more about the characters and the way the story is told.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Oh, yes, too many to name here. He did well, as usual. It's really difficult to not know him. I'm reading another book by another author right now who uses a different narrator than ever before and it almost spoiled the book for me. Don't lose Mr. Brick!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No extreme reaction. I did catch myself reminiscing about my own past and what, if anything, I would change if given the opportunity. The characters were kind of a sad lot but were better in the end, for me, so it was a positive ending with lots of opportunities for the characters.

Any additional comments?

Mr. Coben, keep 'em coming! This is just a good entertaining read, easy reading.

Where does They're Watching rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would put it in the top 10% of audio books I have purchased. Gregg Hurwitz's books are hard to put down as it is and this one didn't differ. I like a book that reads like a movie and this one doesn't disappoint.

What other book might you compare They're Watching to and why?

You could say that They're Watching is similar to You're Next. They both grab you from the beginning. They're similar in that they share the same author and in the way the story is told, because I kept trying to guess what would happen next and what caused something to happen in both books, but rarely got it right. Both are full of suspense and they both involve good vs. evil, but the characters are different. Still, both are loaded with action and each entertained me.

What about Scott Brick’s performance did you like?

I think Scott Brick is one of the best narrators out there. When I see he is narrating something, even when I am unfamiliar with the author, I will stop to read about the book just knowing that he's the narrator -- he's that good! I liked everything, but so far, I think my most favorite character of his voice is Shep.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, not necessarily, but I sure did look forward to it every opportunity I had.

Any additional comments?

Gregg Hurwitz and Scott Brick are a great combination. I read another book recently by a different author in which Scott Brick narrated and it was good, too. I am now reading my third Gregg Hurwitz book by a different narrator and, while that book is good too, I wouldn't include it on the same level as the ones narrated by Scott Brick. As was originally quoted in "Jerry McGuire," Scott Brick "had me at hello."

What did you love best about Defending Jacob?

Not to get off track but it took me away from authors I typically read so I was pleasantly surprised to find a new author I liked. It is not your typical crime story and it was told from the perspective of a parent of a character and it had me guessing until the end.

What other book might you compare Defending Jacob to and why?

I can't really think of a book I could compare to Defending Jacob. One of the reasons why it stands out.

What about Grover Gardner’s performance did you like?

Mr. Gardner is different from the typical narrators and he kind of grew on me. But his tone as the protective parent was spot-on.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It wasn't one of those books you couldn't put down but it did have me thinking and asking questions. I'm definitely glad I read the book.

Any additional comments?

Someone referred this book to me. I had never read anything by the author nor was I familiar with the narrator but neither was a disappointment.

Would you consider the audio edition of Void Moon to be better than the print version?

Didn't read the print version but thoroughly enjoyed the audio version. Couldn't be worse.

What other book might you compare Void Moon to and why?

Void Moon is not your typical book nor is the main character a typical character. First of all, she is a known thief and con artist so would not be thought of as a hero and yet, if she is not a hero, she becomes one. No book for comparison immediately comes to mind.

What about L. J. Ganser’s performance did you like?

I really like both Len Cariou and Dick Hill so I was not familiar with L. J. Ganser. However, I kept an open mind and was not disappointed. While I can easily remember the title of the book and author, the narrator's name is not so memorable. But when I just looked him up while writing this, his voice was once again very familiar so I will try to remember him in the future. He grew on me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think when Cassie was talking to Jack toward the end and he was telling her the history about Max, I really felt for her. But I drew my own conclusion in the end, as must have Cassie, that Jack was not telling the truth. Also, her relationship with Max was very moving -- apparently two lost souls who found each other, only to lose each other again.

Any additional comments?

A book by the Harry Bosch author with no Harry Bosch? I was reserved before reading this book as I couldn't imagine better characters than Harry Bosch, Jack McAvoy, Mickey Haller and Terry McCaleb, but he's done it again! Loved Cassie like his others! Keep 'em coming!
