Historia
Celestial warriors; cruel, fallen rulers; love’s immortal spell; the ancient artifact that will break the curse over them all. The hallowed mountain was unclimbed, dangerous, and forbidden - but Ross Blair was unyielding. Sacred laws and their consequences be damned; he would not be denied his conquest. Yet Ross was unaware of the long-forgotten reason why no one was allowed to step foot on the mountain. Having fallen and now trapped in a deep cavern, cut off from the outside world, Ross has no choice but to go deeper into the chasm.

I would have returned it...
Revisado: 02-23-22
I would have returned it, but I actually finished it out so it didn't feel right. I've seen other reviews describe it as an adult Narnia book. Nah, don't bother. The characters are underwhelming and the worldbuilding is little to none.

Historia
The Numberless have fallen, leaving a power vacuum that is tempting to even the most honorable Validated. Political factions rise and fall in dramatic fashion, creating chaos and disorder. None of that matters to Cojax and Jessica, who know better than most that the Decamont are coming to slay them all. As their perfect city begins to crumble before ambitious and powerful Acadians, and as the ever-looming threat of the true enemy closes in, Cojax and Jessica realize that the revolution may be over, but the war has just begun.

story continues - and gets more exciting
Revisado: 03-27-21
I liked the first book and I'll read YA fiction but this one felt more fleshed out and mature. You've got political intrigue, betrayal and some epic battle scencs.
The narrator also was new for this book which was a positive change. I almost did not finish the first because the narrator did not fit the tone of the book well. I also notice Audible pulled the first book from selection.

Her presence threatens to undermine the entire society, putting Cojax in an impossible situation. He must now choose between what is right and what is necessary for humanity to survive.

Surprised I haven't heard of this book sooner.

Give it a read if you are a Red Rising fan, but don't expect Red Rising. It's got a lot of similarities but it is its own work. I believe it is supposed to be a trilogy.
