Historia
Carol Leonnig has been reporting on the Secret Service for The Washington Post for most of the last decade, bringing to light the secrets, scandals, and shortcomings that plague the agency today - from a toxic work culture to dangerously outdated equipment to the deep resentment within the ranks at key agency leaders, who put protecting the agency’s once-hallowed image before fixing its flaws. But the Secret Service wasn’t always so troubled.

Historia
For those who could read between the lines, the censored news out of China was terrifying. But the president insisted there was nothing to worry about. Fortunately, we are still a nation of skeptics. Fortunately, there are those among us who study pandemics and are willing to look unflinchingly at worst-case scenarios. Michael Lewis’ taut and brilliant nonfiction thriller pits a band of medical visionaries against the wall of ignorance that was the official response of the Trump administration to the outbreak of COVID-19.

This can’t be Michael Lewis
Revisado: 05-08-21
I’ve enjoyed all of Michael Lewis’s previous books but this doesn’t seem like something that he would write. The content is redundant and disorganized. Usually, he is witty but not in this book. Totally disappointing!

One hundred and fifty years after Abraham Lincoln's death, the full story of his extraordinary relationship with Jews is told here for the first time. Lincoln and the Jews: A History provides listeners both with a captivating narrative of his interactions with Jews and the opportunity to immerse themselves in rare manuscripts. Lincoln's lifetime coincided with the emergence of Jews on the national scene in the United States.

A fascinating story
Revisado: 09-27-20
This book talks about Abe Lincoln’s life through the lens of his connection with Jews. There are dozens of Lincoln biographies without any mentions of Jews. Usually the only mention of Jews is the fact the Ulysses S Grant banned Jews from his command until Lincoln overrode his decision. This is a fascinating book.

Wow, Lovesey is 84 and has been publishing to 50 years. He seems to get better with age. I totally enjoyed this book with its plot twists and familiar characters. I hope he continues his book writing.

Historia
Woodward, the number-one international bestselling author of Fear: Trump in the White House, has uncovered the precise moment the president was warned that the Covid-19 epidemic would be the biggest national security threat to his presidency. In dramatic detail, Woodward takes readers into the Oval Office as Trump’s head pops up when he is told in January 2020 that the pandemic could reach the scale of the 1918 Spanish Flu that killed 675,000 Americans.

Trump saying his thinking/actions, and it is scary
Revisado: 09-17-20
In his own words, Trump admits that he has been lying to Americans about the pandemic and other issues. If someone else did it (or if he was a Democrat, there would be an outrage. He lies all the time but 40% of Americans ignore this behavior. I have read all of Woodward’s books and this one is the most damming.

Historia
Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to develop a skill, play an instrument, or lead their field should start early, focus intensely, and rack up as many hours of deliberate practice as possible. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule. David Epstein examined the world’s most successful athletes, artists, musicians, inventors, forecasters and scientists. He discovered that in most fields—especially those that are complex and unpredictable—generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

Revisado: 08-23-20
Too often people try to make career decisions at a young age instead of being generalist. Epstein includes stories of the best research. People are pushed into early decisions instead of given the freedom to try a variety of experiences.

Revisado: 05-27-20
I have read/listened to every Michael Connelly. They have consistently very good/excellent until Fair Warning. The end of book finished with a wimper. It makes me feel like I’ve wasted my time. After 20+ books, Connelly finally disappoints.
