Phil Knight is a remarkable man. In Shoe Dog, he candidly outlines his (relatively) humble beginnings and all the hard work and sacrifice he had to put in to make Nike successful. Very well written and engaging. Elite narration. Take a ride on Mr. Knight’s rollercoaster, you won’t regret it!

Amazing plot twist (no spoilers)
Revisado: 05-20-19
This one was amazing. The story is told through a series of phone calls, which makes it unique and interesting. The narration is excellent and realistic, some of the best narration I've ever heard. The plot twist is one of the best I've ever read (listened to). Hats off to the author for writing this

Historia
Bob Dylan's Chronicles: Volume One explores the critical junctions in his life and career. Through Dylan's eyes and open mind, we see Greenwich Village, circa 1961, when he first arrives in Manhattan. Dylan's New York is a magical city of possibilities: smoky, nightlong parties; literary awakenings; transient loves and unbreakable friendships. Elegiac observations are punctuated by jabs of memories, penetrating and tough.

Dylan may be the most talented writer of all time. A true wordsmith, he brings his story to life. Penn did a good job with the narration, but it was too monotone. Choppy abridging aside, this is one best books I’ve ever read/listened to

I can’t believe this is one of Oprah’s favorite books. Love her. Maybe it came at a time when she was starting her spiritual journey and answered a burning question she had. Couldn’t finish it, but Zukav states some well known truths as if he came up with them and then becomes wildly speculative. Monotone narration. Listen to The Untethered Soul instead

Historia
I almost didn't publish Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It. I was terrified. Here I was, a CEO who'd fallen apart after his company failed, writing a book about how loving himself saved him. I thought I'd be a laughing stock and my career would be finished. But I stepped through the fears and shared my truth with the world. What happened next changed my life. The book went viral. Amazing people all over shared it online and on social media. They bought copies for friends and family. They wrote heartfelt reviews. For some, this book literally saved their lives.

Historia
In this follow-up to her acclaimed 2007 novel The Bastard of Istanbul, Turkish author Elif Shafak unfolds two tantalizing parallel narratives---one contemporary and the other set in the 13th century, when Rumi encountered his spiritual mentor, the whirling dervish known as Shams of Tabriz---that together incarnate the poet's timeless message of love.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Meh
Revisado: 03-20-18
I feel the success of this book was due to a perfect storm resulting from negativity in the media and the resulting anxiety. I bought this because I loved a point Manson made in his last book, although the rest of it was boring. There are a few good/funny points, but they’re not worth the time and money IMO. Manson spends a quarter of the book complaining about entitlement, which is really annoying. The narrator was annoying too, but I couldn’t tell if it was because of his voice or the whiney undertone of the book. Probably both. YMMV

"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition."
