I am LOST now that I've finished this & the first one 😅 It's the perfect finish to an amazingly sweet (and VERY spicy) story. I will forever sing Harley's praises & will read anything she writes!!

Oh my GOD... literally

I loved Priest and was deterred by the slightly cringy description ("and he only has one word for me... sinner") so I stopped after Priest for like a year. Booktok convinced me to read this and I'm so mad at myself that I waited THIS long to read this! The writing is impeccable, the age gap is written SO well in an authentic but non-taboo way. I wish this had been longer because I just wanted to keep reading it, but the story is truly perfectly paced. This book broke my heart & put it back together and made me cry (which is admittedly quite a feat). I truly can't recommend this enough!

This is a must read, whether you're a hockey romance fan or not. I'm so impressed by how many tropes were in this book, and even more impressed by how well they were all executed. Amazing narration (although I did listen to it at 1.5x speed) & great story pacing.

Check TW, there is some SA content that some people may find triggering.

Remove any expectations from the cat & mouse duet and you will love this if you like HD Carlton's writing!! Enzo is not Zade & Sawyer is not Addie - these two have their own incredible story and holy cow is it a wild ride.

A million stars

I'm not even finished yet and I wish I could rate this a million stars. Overall, the narration is great ESPECIALLY Wyn's voice - Danny's voice is a little too Forest Gump-y for me but the inflection didn't bother me. I listen to all books at 1.4x or faster, so maybe the inflection of Danny's narration didn't bother me as much as some others because it was at 1.4x. If you're considering this, just do it - it's well worth the credit, I can't wait for Edin's story to be released.

This story had so much possibility and completely underdelivered. Also, not dual POV or dual narration & relatively short, so it all seemed very rushed and random with little chemistry. Honestly not worth the credit.

I wanted to like this so bad, it was recommended a bunch on booktok so I took the leap. It started pretty good, but the combination of overly emotional language from the MC & the overly emotional narration made this a DNF for me about halfway through. I listened to this on 1.5x hoping it would help, but it's a little too city territory wars/semi-realistic but not believable for me. Spice was good but the MC's internal monologues are just too much. Honestly probably is better in print, but this wasn't worth the credit for me.

Penelope Douglas, you've done it again

Honestly, I'm not sure if I loved this or Corrupt more. Overall, these people all need therapy and so do I. Maybe I'm getting desensitized but I think this one was less violent than Corrupt, which might have factored into it. Damon's backstory & his love for Winter/how everything went down was very heart-wrenching and Ms. Penelope gave him a really beautiful character arc. As usual, killer music taste. Definitely check trigger warnings for this, this series is NOT for everyone. Still not the largest fan of the narrators, but they're growing on me slowly if I listen to the book at 1.4x speed.

Personally I liked Corrupt better & don't prefer these voice actors. Honestly I skipped from Chapter 5 to 14 and feel like I didn't miss much - I love Penelope Douglas and I was so excited for Kai's story but I actually was more into Corrupt. This book, like the series, can be triggering depending on your life experiences, so I recommend looking into trigger warnings!

TW: If you have been assaulted, kidnapped, restrained, or have any triggers pertaining to anything regarding something similar, this is NOT the book for you.

These people need therapy & so do I LOL because this might be my new favorite Penelope Douglas book, passing Credence. The female voice actor wasn't my favorite for Rika's voice & the male actor's voice didn't seem deep enough to be Michael. All in all, this is still an incredible book.

This book is definitely not for everyone - Michael is incredibly morally gray and if you're looking for sweet and romantic, this is not that.
