Historia
More than a year after she helped save the world from the Sparnaxian invasion, Andrea Vernon is in a good place. Her boss is giving her greater responsibility and she’s getting to travel a lot (although her fill-in is hopeless at making coffee); things could be getting even more serious with her 8’ 4” superhero boyfriend, The Big Axe; and she has a really fun new BFF, Never More. Small issue, though, with that last item - Never More is a supervillain bent on world domination, and it looks as if nothing can stop her.

Well actually, it's even better than the first one

This series is hilarious. Perfect for road trips.
Revisado: 05-09-21
My daughter (14) and I absolutely love this series. We recently spent a ridiculous amount of time imaging who we would cast if there were a tv show. On a nearly daily basis we make Big Axe or Inspector Well Actually jokes. We love all the characters and there are too many hilarious ones to name but one of our all time faves is the “army of jerks!”
If you haven’t listened give them a chance. Get lost in the delightful inner workings of CUP and Andrea’s various relationships with family, friends and coworkers.
We cannot wait to see what happens next, in the series and other books from the author.

Zero, Nyx, and the other Pathfinder colonists have adjusted to life on Kaguya. But Earth has built much faster starships-the Dreamcatcher arrives 10 years early, and the Stargazer arrives so early it actually got there before the Pathfinder did! Now the Stargazer is a lost shipwreck, and the race is on to find it, and who should show up looking for it but Nyx's dangerous family: Big Mama, Jim, and Kratt. Nyx and Zero will face kidnappers, pirates, shipwrecks, warlords, dragons, and maybe a new ally or two on their way to save the day once again.

Historia
In this Hugo-winner from Connie Willis, when too many jumps back to 1940 leave 21st century Oxford history student Ned Henry exhausted, a relaxing trip to Victorian England seems the perfect solution. But complexities like recalcitrant rowboats, missing cats, and love at first sight make Ned's holiday anything but restful - to say nothing of the way hideous pieces of Victorian art can jeopardize the entire course of history.

Love.
Revisado: 01-04-21
I second all the good reviews of this book, many of them written far better than I’m capable of.
This book is laugh-out-loud funny, non-stop action and all of the weird or confusing comes together in a perfectly satisfying conclusion.
This has become an annual listen and is just as enjoyable the nth time as it was the first.
My favorites: Ned. “Screamlets”. Hiding from Lady Shrapnel (that name! Lol). Cyril, more man than dog. Cats, extinct and un-extinct. Pen wipers.
Long, lazy summer days of rowing, floating, fishing and smelling the grass and flowers.

Don’t Miss This
Revisado: 01-04-21
Connie Willis’ books are long, detailed, seemingly convoluted and utterly enthralling.
Doomsday Book alternates between the present (2050 I think?) and the coinciding timeline when Kivrin goes back in time to the 1300’s. The cast of characters introduced in both times are funny, kind, exasperating, appalling...and all of them so real I feel like I’ve known them personally.
I listen to and read hard copies of a lot of books, at least two a week for years, mostly fiction of all types.
Few of them have stuck with me the way Doomsday Book has. I rarely come so close to hearing the bells tolling, feeling the frozen chill of winter. Feeling as if I can clearly see Mr. Dunworthy, Mary, Colin, Agnes and Father Roche. Feel their desperation, hope, fear, ...all of it.
I just finished listening again and was shocked at the downright uncanny parallels to 2020 and the pandemic. From the lockdown, to poor Finch always trying to track down more toilet paper, to anti mask protestors, even down to some people calling it “the Indian flu”! I had forgotten those parts and could hardly believe my ears at some points.
This book is fantastic and well worth listening to. Stick it out to the end. Then get “To Say Nothing of the Dog” by Connie Willis for the absolute, sheer joy of it.

Historia
No one deserves a "happily ever after" quite as much as the second oldest Winston brother and his lady love Claire McClure (a.k.a. Scarlet St. Claire). Cruelty and circumstance tore them apart, almost 20 years ago. Secrecy and bitterness kept them separated. But do you know who's tired of their separation and stubbornness? Everyone. Especially Billy Winston’s family. And now, they're going to do something about it.

I second all the good reviews of this final book and of the entire series. So satisfying and, while I am genuinely sad it’s over, I’m also looking forward to listening to all the books again in the future. This is a series that will stay funny and fantastic for years to come.
Now to go nurse my book hangover...somehow.

Fun listen
Revisado: 06-30-16
This was a fun short-ish listen (I generally don't get anything less than 10 hours). Though many parts of the plot were unrealistic I think that's pretty much understood in this genre. It reminded me of Kristen Ashley's writing, characters and plot.
I wasn't sure if I liked the narrator's accent at first but it grew on me. I thought she got the inflection right and that is my biggest beef with narrators usually. I'm glad I saw it on sale otherwise I probably never would have tried it out. Worth a credit IMHO.

Great book, bad narration
Revisado: 05-17-16
I like Bella Jewel's books. I have a hard time using a credit on anything less than 10 hours but I've bought a few of hers on audio and enjoyed them. This one I couldn't get past the first two chapters. The heroine has to be pretty tough, she's trying to make it as a bounty hunter right? To me she sounded like a high pitched, empty headed ditz. When she meets the hero it's mentioned he has a slight accent that she can't place. That's when the hero starts to sound like a bad imitation of Dracula or a Russian mob boss and I couldn't take any more.
I bought the book elsewhere and enjoyed reading it on paper so the hero could sound sexy and the heroine could sound like a grown up in my head.
I'm sure the narrator is great, she just missed on this one.

Historia
In Dad is Fat, stand-up comedian Jim Gaffigan, who’s best known for his legendary riffs on Hot Pockets, bacon, manatees, and McDonald's, expresses all the joys and horrors of life with five young children - everything from cousins ("celebrities for little kids") to toddlers’ communication skills ("they always sound like they have traveled by horseback for hours to deliver important news"), to the eating habits of four-year-olds ("there is no difference between a four-year-old eating a taco and throwing a taco on the floor").

Revisado: 04-15-16
Seriously funny. I don't know how single adults feel about it but as a parent I laughed through the entire book. I'm not a connoisseur of Gaffigan so I don't know if he repeats stuff that's been out for a while or not as some of the other reviews said.

Historia
When farmers cutting turf in an Irish peat bog make a grisly discovery, the perfectly intact body of a young woman with long red hair, archaeologist Cormac O'Callaghan and pathologist Nora Gavin are thrown together by their shared scientific interest in human remains. Because of the preservative effect of the bog, it is difficult to tell whether the body has lain there for two decades, two centuries, or two millennia.

Great listen
Revisado: 03-26-15
Good book, interesting story with a great narrator. I loved her accent. I don't usually buy murder mysteries but this had other elements that drew me to it. Drama, suspense, a little bit of romance. It wasn't overly long. I like books that are long AND good so I feel like I haven't wasted a credit or my time. This book was worth both, I won't forget the "Colleen roa". (Sorry if I spelled that incorrectly. That's the only thing I don't like about audiobooks, I can't see how names or places are spelled 😁).
