Historia
For the last fifty years, we have been fighting a losing war on food. We have cut fat, reduced carbs, eliminated sugar, and attempted every conceivable diet only to find that eighty-eight million American adults are prediabetic, more than a hundred million have high blood pressure, and nearly half now qualify as obese. The harder we try to control what we eat, the unhealthier we become. Why?

Many interesting points

Wanted to make a statement about the fake meat part. It's not about meat being bad, but more about not wanting to kill animals. Many were raised on meat and we cannot unwant the flavor, but we may not want to slaughter animals. We do not judge meat eaters, it is personal choice. Cheese is a processed food, as is tofu or a veggie burger. I would love to see a vitamin/obesity study. Are all vitamins equally guilty?

This is a great book, but as I am not into competitive sports or activities, I found myself longing for a book to just tell me how to live. I find all the tricks and tips to maximize performance at a race to be unhelpful for me. I'm just want to know how to live better.

Historia
In Carrying the Fire, Michael Collins conveys, in a very personal way, the drama, beauty, and humor of the adventure of reaching the moon. He also traces his development from his first flight experiences in the air force, through his days as a test pilot, to his Apollo 11 spacewalk, presenting an evocative description of the joys of flight as well as a new perspective on time, light, and movement from someone who has seen the fragile Earth from the other side of the moon.

I feel like I was there, I feel like I know him.
Revisado: 02-19-22
I am pretty sad as I write this because I reached the end of the audiobook. I miss the presence I felt while listening. This is an honest and personal account that shows the human side of an astronaut. It was a trip to the moon and back. I started the book seeing him as a bigger than life hero. As the narrative unfolded I saw how he was a normal guy, silly at times, and humble. By the end of the book, he was back being a super brave hero, but I knew him as if he was family. I really like him, I wish I could have met him. Thank you for writing this book Mr Collins, you are awesome!

Historia
Fascinated from an early age by the natural world in general and ants in particular, Edward Osborne Wilson's field work on them and on all social insects has vastly expanded our knowledge of their many species and fascinating ways of being. This work led to his 1975 book Sociobiology, which created an intellectual firestorm from his contention that all animal behavior, including that of humans, is governed by the laws of evolution and genetics. Subsequently, Wilson has become a leading voice on the crucial importance to all life of biodiversity.

Exactly what I have always wanted!
Revisado: 06-08-21
For years I have been picking up books, reading articles and downloading papers in an attempt to undorstand this issue. Time and time again, I have been disappointed when the books and articles were political diatribes and the papers were over my head. I am a chemist, but since each scientific discipline has its own language and nomenclature, I have been unable to educate myself on this subject. This book is an excellent overview, without commentary and driving opinion. Worst case and best case scenerios are presented with clear explainations. Thank you LMK!

Armed with clear evidence of computer espionage, he began a highly personal quest to expose a hidden network of spies that threatened national security. But would the authorities back him up? Cliff Stoll's dramatic firsthand account is "a computer-age detective story, instantly fascinating [and] astonishingly gripping" - Smithsonian.

Great Account, great book!
Revisado: 12-07-20
I'm a chemist and on the side, a sometimes computer fixer for friends and family. As I listened, I found myself regretting that I did not learn a computer language; yet this book described things in an accesible non-dumbed down way. I was captivated and I finished the book in 3 days. The author expressed an opinion about hacking that aligned with my own. I find hackers fascinating and appreciate the skills, yet I lament the extinction of open networks and good will in general. THEN!, I realized that I had bought Klein Bottle earrings from the the author years ago!!! Acme Klein Bottles are the best Klein Bottles ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶o̶l̶a̶r̶ ̶s̶y̶s̶t̶e̶m̶ on Earth!

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.
