Not a single likable character
Revisado: 03-18-24
The only surprise of the book was that it never introduced a single compelling character. I kept hoping til the very end for a redeeming act, some action or attitude that reveals someone worthy of being told a story about.

Disappointing
Revisado: 10-31-20
The main character, always a bit wooden, becomes downright insufferable as the book ends in a moralizing monologue.

No flaws
Revisado: 09-15-20
Suspenseful story and great characters. No needles gore. I was a bit concerned that this would be a typical serial killer thriller; one of those books that shamelessly glory in the genius and nauseating evil of unspeakable crimes, while imbuing the murderer with nearly supernatural skills.

Fell apart at the end
Revisado: 01-01-20
The story was captivating and suspenseful, but resolution was a letdown. The explanations for many of the major characters’ actions were unsatisfying.

Well written and well thought out
Revisado: 12-31-19
Immensely enjoyable to listen to. Good story and good narration. The story draws the reader in without resorting to grotesque violence. There isn’t a single psychopath or serial killer in the entire book - the characters are ordinary humans under ordinary circumstances.

Historia
To all appearances, Dan Chase is a harmless retiree in Vermont with two big mutts and a grown daughter he keeps in touch with by phone. But most 60-year-old widowers don't have multiple driver's licenses, savings stockpiled in banks across the country, and a bugout kit with two Beretta Nanos stashed in the spare bedroom closet. Most have not spent decades on the run.

Historia
In the span of one afternoon, Maggie Sampson lost everything-her job, her fiancé and her inheritance. The thing she'll miss most though is her mind. What else could explain her vision of the handsome and enigmatic stranger who retrieved her engagement ring when she hurled the rock into the Atlantic Ocean? Normal people just don't do things like that. Sometimes fantasy is better than reality.

Graphic but with realism
Revisado: 04-01-16
I normally do not value romance books; this one is the exception. I appreciated the realism woven into the story in spite of its graphic nature. It helped me gain just a bit more insight into human nature.

Historia
It's Dr. Kay Scarpetta's birthday, and she's about to head to Miami for a vacation with Benton Wesley, her FBI profiler husband, when she notices seven pennies on a wall behind their Cambridge house. Is this a kids' game? If so, why are all of the coins dated 1981 and so shiny they could be newly minted? Her cellphone rings, and Detective Pete Marino tells her there's been a homicide five minutes away. A high school music teacher has been shot with uncanny precision as he unloaded groceries from his car.

Same old Scarpetta
Revisado: 11-17-14
Just as family members can become predictable so do the characters of this book by this twenty-second volume. On the other hand, this also says a lot about the abilities of Patricia Cornwell who was able to create such true to life characters. Being in the presence of Scarpetta, Benton, Lucy and Marino again is simultaneously both welcome and annoying.

Original
Revisado: 09-05-13
It was an original (at least to me) take on zombies. I found the main character likeable and the story entertaining with just the right amount of introspection. The narration was right on, although occasionally I would become very aware of the fact that a woman was impersonating a male voice. All and all, all I can say is
"Zombie superpowers activate!"
