So informative for those interested in all things Indian. The accompanying PDF is a wealth of knowledge! I'd recommend reading the glossary before listening to the book as things will make a lot more sense.

Different from his others, but a really great read/listen. It explores the relationships we might have with our AI robots of the future. I honestly hope our robots of the future do not reach this level of intelligence, lol!

Difficult to keep my focus
Revisado: 02-19-20
This is not a bad book at all. I just found that I often switched to another because it didn’t quite grab me. I also found references to “scenes” rather odd, as though I was reading a script for a play.

Historia
In December 2017 the famous porn star August Ames committed suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. It happened a day after she’d been the victim of a pile-on, via Twitter, by fellow porn professionals - punishment for her tweeting something deemed homophobic. A month later, August’s husband, Kevin, connected with Jon Ronson to tell the story of how Twitter bullying killed his wife. What neither Kevin nor Ronson realized was that Ronson would soon hear rumors and secrets hinting at a very different story - something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

Excellent Book
Revisado: 02-10-19
I love Jon Ronson, but I couldn't stomach the Butterfly Effect, because I have zero interest in porn although my husband is a great fan. I don't "disapprove" of porn if all parties are 100% voluntary, but this book has made me think that the majority of women wouldn't be doing porn if they had any other marketable skills. This might be true of any low-skill job -- indeed a dead-end clerical job is what encouraged me to go back to school -- but hearing that porn stars are often denied their pay if they don't certify that everything went well was very disturbing to hear. Under that standard, even in the field I chose (Computer Science), there were days where I wouldn't certify that and thus wouldn't be paid. The book also makes clear that emotional health problems and a traumatic childhood are very common in this industry. Wow! I really have to rethink my values here! This book will really make you think!

Historia
Sixty-nine-year-old Arthur Pepper lives a simple life. He gets out of bed at precisely 7:30 a.m., just as he did when his wife, Miriam, was alive. He dresses in the same gray slacks and mustard sweater-vest; waters his fern, Frederica; and heads out to his garden. But on the one-year anniversary of Miriam's death, something changes. Sorting through Miriam's possessions, Arthur finds an exquisite gold charm bracelet he's never seen before.

Poignant book with likeable people
Revisado: 12-10-18
This book was charming and thought provoking. It follows the death of the dear wife of the protagonist, Arthur Pepper. He finds a charm bracelet of hers and begins to explore a side of his wife he'd never known existed. He learns the significance of each charm on the bracelet, and this exploration ends up helping his own healing after his wife's death.

Dry and long!
Revisado: 08-23-18
This book might be fine if you have a fascination with porcelain or Chinese history. If not, you might be checking to see how much time is left, like me, multiple times an hour. It's packed with information and obviously well-researched, but too dry to keep my attention.

Historia
Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie’s life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle—from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she’s trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud.

Laugh Out Loud Funny
Revisado: 08-22-18
One the best comical books I've read in a while! This book is funny, but not silly, and actually gave me a new perspective on some of my most hated bosses. It reminded me a bit of The Devil Wears Prada except that I ended up liking most of the characters in this book. A+ and comes highly recommended!

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

Possibly his best -- and that's saying a LOT!
Revisado: 07-10-18
I love David Sedaris and this latest definitely does not disappoint! It's darker than the others, and some of the issues he talks about I've experienced in my own family so reading about them really resonated. As I believe has been mentioned, the book references suicide, alcoholism, dementia and other mental illnesses. At the same time, I laughed out loud more than I have in a long time. The most poignant moments were when he described situations, experiences and sentiments of which he was not proud, but which humanized him for me more than any other work has.

Unpredictable, somewhat suspenseful, great writing!
Revisado: 03-20-18
Really good book and I could not have predicted the ending. This follows a waitress with a mysterious past and a PI who's been hired to find her. They both find out a lot about eachother, but not the whole story. Polly has a past that makes her vulnerable to judgement, and the PI finds himself forgiving things he never thought he would.
