Historia
Sam Carlson is a projectionist in small-town Minnesota, where fantasies unspool in glorious black and white—for him and for his sweetheart, college-bound math whiz Sarah Haber. When the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, Sam is sent to the Philippines and captured as a POW. Brutalized but unbroken by the Bataan Death March and POW camps, Sam is one of eighteen hundred starved and weakened prisoners herded into the cargo hold of a barbaric hell ship called the Arisan Maru, his survival doubtful.

Excellent
Revisado: 03-03-25
Historical fiction based on accurate research. Story & narration are masterful. Another hit by Dugoni. I was already aware of the cruelty to our POW's in the Pacific. Like some others, I was glad that he included the roles of women working as Waves & military breaking Japanese codes. Highly recommended.

Historia
The most eagerly awaited presidential biography in years, Theodore Rex is a sequel to Edmund Morris’s classic bestseller The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt. It begins by following the new President (still the youngest in American history) as he comes down from Mount Marcy, New York, to take his emergency oath of office in Buffalo, one hundred years ago.

Charles Jenkins appears again, although not a series. My first Dugoni books were the Eighth Sister, The Last Agent & The Silent Sisters with Chas Jenkins. Suspenseful, intriguing story & great narration.

Historia
Bodily Harm opens with a big win for Sloane and his new partner, Tom Pendergrass, in a medical malpractice case centered on the death of a child. But on the heels of this seeming victory, an unlikely character – toy designer Kyle Horgan – comes forward to tell Sloane that he’s gotten it all wrong. Horgan’s the one who’s truly responsible for the little boy’s death and others – not the pediatrician Sloane has just proven guilty.

Historia
Deadliest Sea by Kalee Thompson is the spellbinding true story of the greatest rescue in US Coast Guard history. Recounting the tragic sinking of the fishing trawler, Alaska Ranger, in the Bering Sea and its remarkable aftermath in March 2008, Deadliest Sea is real-life action and adventure at its finest. The full story of an amazing rescue - where extraordinary courage, ingenuity, will, and technology combined in one of the most remarkable maritime feats ever recorded - has never been told before now. It’s The Perfect Storm meets Deadliest Catch.

Action, Adventure, Heroism
Revisado: 12-15-24
This book describes the heroic efforts of the Coast Guard to recover victims of the sinking of the ship, while risking their own lives. True story. It also delves into the dangers & problems with deep-sea fishing & efforts to change laws to increase safety. Good narration. I agree with a few reviews who site this as not necessarily the greatest rescue in history. Most rescues are dangerous. Thank you U.S. Coast Guard.

The charismatic, unforgettable cast includes the first American paratrooper to touch down on Normandy soil; the glider pilot who braved antiaircraft fire to crash-land mere yards from the vital Pegasus Bridge; the brothers who led their troops onto Juno Beach under withering fire; as well as a French commando, returning to his native land, who fought to destroy German strongholds on Sword Beach and beyond.

Riveting accounts of these courageous heroes on such an important day in history. Wish my history teachers had presented the how's, the why's, the reasons leading up to history topics, rather than memorize names & dates. Highly recommend this book.

Historia
Bertie Jenkins has spent forty years serving as a midwife for her community in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Out of all the mothers she’s tended, none affects her more than the young teenager who shows up on her doorstep, injured, afraid, and expecting, one warm June day in 1943. As Bertie and her four sisters tenderly nurture Songbird back to health, the bond between the childless midwife and the motherless teen grows strong. But soon Songbird is forced to make a heartbreaking decision that will tear this little family apart.

Heartbreaking & heartwarming
Revisado: 12-15-24
Great portrayal of deep mountain life. Characters well developed. Insightful interpretation of emotions surrounding adoption, adoptees & adopted children/adults. Great narration. The only thing that bothered me was the wording give your baby away, rather than arranging an adoption, but back then that's the way it was said. Granted, I'm speaking as an L&D RN, who also assisted many homebirths of mothers who were well screened.
