Elena Wolf and Jacob Morgan K!lled it, pun intended, lol. Great audio narrators and Josh's voice(s) - SWOON. Insert heart eyed emoji.

I loved Lights Out!!! It is the most fun and sweet DARK romance I have read to date. Lots of trigger warnings, so make sure you check those out. But overall, it was a fun cat-and-mouse type relationship where the MMC and FMC try to outwit each other, resulting in a lot of moments where I found myself giggling and smiling.

Josh (MMC) is a super hacker and has a dark past that causes him to be a bit reclusive. He created an online persona of a masked man on social media so that he can interact with others without his identity being known.

Aly (FMC) has developed a k!nk for the Faceless Man's th!rst tr@p videos and posts lots of teasing and flirty comments. Before long, Aly gets to live out her fantasies and thus the chase begins.

But there are more sinister people in the world than just Josh and his alter ego, resulting in more suspenseful drama beyond just their blossoming relationship.

This book was fun, witty, SPICY (5 chili peppers!), and Josh is soooo loveable. Even as a st@lk3r. You'll see ;-).

Enjoy!

I enjoyed Promised in Fire. I think the female narrator, Bridget Bordeaux, was great. The male narrator was a bit too intense and it was kind of a distraction for me from the story. I was thinking in my mind more about the narrator than the story. However, the male narrator did soften his tone later in the book, making it less of an issue towards the end.

Elements I enjoyed were: slow burn (it's realllllly slow); hidden magic; hidden origins/past; world building; fated mates; a dark essence threatening everyone; variety of magic.

Feel Good Enemies to Lovers Fantasy

Narrator: Amanda Leigh Cobb - always phenomenal with her dialects, accents, tone changes between characters.

This series follows three sisters (found family style) who have very different personalities but who all help protect endangered animals and foster injured animals. This role leads them to an unfortunate misunderstanding with the neighboring Fae rulers, who also have an affinity for the flora and fauna of their lands.
The sisters are forced to undergo their own "games" and challenges and the first book of the series focuses on Lark (sister) navigating the labyrinth of the Solitary Mountain as challenged by Cerulean (Fae Ruler of the Sky).

Lots of riddles and fables to challenge you as you read. Some were clarified towards the end; some may be further clarified in the subsequent books of the series.

Lark and Cerulean have an interesting story and good banter; some of the plot is obvious for a long time before the main characters figure it out. It wasn't as suspenseful as I wanted it to be; I never got super stressed for Lark, which I think was the goal of the trials of the mountain.

It's more of a feel good enemies to lovers type of fantasy read. Things are resolved enough in the first book that you could read it as a one-off of the series. That can be nice when you get tired of having to slog through a long series to get some resolution. However, it leaves you wondering what happens for her sisters (Juniper and Cove) in the subsequent books in the Vicious Fae series. So if you like a good series it delivers on that as well.

Spice: Slow burn with some open door, descriptive scenes and very sweet moments. I give 3 chili peppers.

I rated this a 3 because of my personal preferences for fantasy, as follows:
1) complex world building - this book is fairly straight forward which will be enjoyable for people who don't want to get bogged down and confused by complex world building.
2) Intricate and confusing world history/character history - I loved being stumped and struggling through riddles and prophecies. Jaster gives you some decent history that isn't too confusing to follow, which is likely preferred by some readers.
3) MORE STEAM PLEASE - I prefer 4-5 chili peppers (don't judge me, lol). So it may have slid into the 4 star range regardless of my other preferences if there were MORE spicy scenes.

So, this could easily be rated higher if your preferences vary somewhat from the ones I listed above as mine. I completed listening to the book in just a couple of days, so it did keep me entertained to keep listening.

I hope this review was helpful! Enjoy!

The book is great! Very suspenseful! The female narrator is one of the best I’ve heard. She really sounds like a different person with each character she voices.

This was a great listen. Narrators were great. The story is intriguing and I didn’t want to stop listening. The “exciting” bits were great without being ridiculous. Loved it.
