Worth a credit
Revisado: 04-19-17
I tell ya, I couldn't keep up with all the heartache this book contained. This poor cast of characters had more than their fill of bad luck and their ability to find happy in between was inspiring. The heartbreaking, yet uplifting ending was especially well done. I typically like a good flashback or two but I didn't really enjoy the bouncing around this time. It was difficult to fully invest in the emotions of today when yesterday had not been clearly laid out for me yet. I could have been more emotionally invested had the storyline simply started at the beginning and moved forward. Just my personal preference. Overall well done -from storyline to characters to writing to narration.

Family in print
Revisado: 04-19-17
The ending didn't feel like an ending which initially felt like a betrayal. I mean, how does it just stop? Then, upon reflection, it felt logical as this was not a typical storyline (beginning, peak, ending). In this book, I simply shared a bit of time with family and their life continued as has mine. Very well done.
The goings on in this family are complete with familiar family dynamics and all the ups and downs and love and frustration that go along with it. Mom and Dad, the sister who needed constant support, the brother at arms length, and the lone soldier sister trying to hold it all together along with the impact on her own family...and everything in between.
Narration was well done and the storyline was well laid. I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom. This did not impact my review in any way.

I hurt. I hurt so deeply, I felt the pain searing in my bones and jabbing like a hot poker into my heart. I knew nothing would make it better as the memories pulled from the crevices of my mind, detailing the bad and the ugly, filling my thoughts with regret as I slipped into the darkness...When I was eight, my mother was dying of cancer, my father lost his job, and the bank kicked us out of our house. I was forced to move to the strange town of Arlis, Texas where my father and I slept in our car in the hospital parking lot.

What a ride!
Revisado: 03-31-17
Any additional comments?
Be ready to dive right into a chaotic, emotional beginning... similar to what I can imagine Alex's beginning must have felt like. I was so perplexed by the first few pages that I had to stop and return to this one when I was ready to invest time and emotion into this one. I had no idea what was going on but the characters turmoil and distress was so obvious that I was admittedly effected by her distress.
But, when I came back ready to dive in I was glad I did. The flashbacks throughout did not give any obvious hints as to why Alex was in her current situation so I was near obsessed with both storylines (now and then) as I tried to figure out why/what/where and how. Very well done!
Jess and Alex were childhood friends tied together by unwanted (although much needed) charity and an unexplained 8 yr old connection. Through unfounded shame and resentment along with typical coming of age situations their friendship was tried and tested yet their connection was undeniable. The ongoing backstory was compelling and well laid out. When the current situation was finally revealed I was on the edge of my seat begging for a happy ending. It was revealed so late in the story that I thought I had figured out how this would all end... I was wrong. Sorry - no spoilers. You have to wait to hear for yourself! It's worth the emotional ride!
Narration was great although there were some sound quality issues and a couple of repeated lines about an hour before the finale. This did not effect my listening experience and did not appear to be any fault of the narrator. Technology, right?
Anyhow... definitely worth a credit!

Mystical. Weird. Hilarious. It's a tale of idiots. It's a tale of life. A dumb cast of characters you have to see to believe. The surgeon on an acid trip. The lazy Uncle who fuses with his favorite chair. The boy who comes back from the dead for revenge. Bootsy Collins. What do these people have in common? About as much as you have with Kevin Bacon.

Buckle up
Revisado: 03-28-17
Right on the cover "Like starting off an acid trip with a pitcher of Red Bull" the tone was set and my expectations were clear. Obviously, this was going to be similar to a typical night with 15-20 of my closest friends in that tiny one bedroom apartment I shared with my crazy ass boyfriend when I was 20. Similar to the outrageous ramblings of my favorite people who had over-indulged in...well, whatever...you know what I'm talking about. Dark, funny, sad-ish, and incoherent...it's all here.
There's not much else I can share about the storyline because it was quite simply erratic. Was there a storyline? It was entertaining without a damn storyline.
Disclaimer: If you never enjoyed those nights you only sort of remember with those crazy guys in that dumpy apartment doing those things you wouldn't tell your mom about then you will not enjoy this book. If you did - cheers!

I'm a believer
Revisado: 03-28-17
Growing up with a mother who had "feelings" that always came to fruition, I went into this story open-minded. There has to be some level of believability for me to thoroughly enjoy any book, as I'm not big on outrageous storylines or fantasy. I am always looking to escape with new friends on a realistic journey when I pick up a book. This one did not disappoint.
Evan has a gift that branded him as the 'freak' and Jo had the childhood that branded her as her own kind of damaged. Their connection from beginning to end was its own twisted fairy tale. The characters were tortured souls yet relatable. Their journey was well-written and engaging.
Narration was a bit 'breathy' at times but I quickly got used to it and fell right under Ramona's spell. I finished in less than 36 hours and I'm not ashamed to admit I neglected my responsibilities to get to the end as quickly as possible.
Overall very well done and I'm glad I stumbled into this one. Emma Scott is now on my TBR immediately list. Definitely worth a credit!

Jake is my hero
Revisado: 03-28-17
I loved this book and all the characters! While I assume Sandy and Nick were the primary characters, I found that I was more wrapped up in Waffle (he will forever be Waffle to me) and Jake than the humans. I am an animal lover and I have adopted a few too many (my husband would say) so I felt an immediate kinship with Sandy. Nick was a knight in shining armor, cleverly disguised as a dog thief, although his character was believable and not overdone. They were thrown together by circumstance and it was obvious their love-hate relationship was a bit unbalanced - to the good. Aunt Ed and her crazy life was a fun side story. But, no one in this book held a candle to Jake. I've been searching for an African Gray to add to my menagerie and I am more determined now than ever to find my new feathered friend... muffins, poop scooping and all.
Narration was on point and I never felt as if I was being read to, only that I was a part of this story. By far the best compliment I could pay to a narrator, in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I will be looking for another by Dixie Cash immediately!

William took my other hand in his and pulled me closer to him. I looked up at him, wondering what it would be like to kiss him. It was very quiet in the room, the only sound being our own breathing and the occasional shout from someone in the hangars down the hall. The fabric of our green jump suits rustled as he slid his hands down my waist and pulled me against his body. I rested my hands against his shoulders.

Not for me
Revisado: 03-20-17
For me, it took multiple attempts to get through this one. The narration was monotone and did not keep me engaged at all. The characters were unbelievable and immature. The conversations did not flow naturally and I couldn't buy into the story or the characters. I tried, but it just wasn't for me.

Wow... what an ending!
Revisado: 03-20-17
Well, this was not at all what I expected! Talk about a surprise ending! I really grew to enjoy Jezebel and Annabelle's characters and enjoyed their time together. I knew Celeste's story was more entwined with Jezebel's life than she was letting on but I did not expect the twist at the end! The fact that the surprise ending happened at the VERY END left me reeling. I didn't have time to process it or come to terms with it before it was just over. Well done!
Emma's narration was spot on although her male voices were not exceptional. Otherwise, she fit these characters well and really helped bring this story to life.
I am still in shock over the finale and I may have to take a break from reading for a day or two to put my thoughts and emotions back together. I will re-read soon to see what clues I may have missed along the way. Definitely worth a credit!!

But, why?
Revisado: 03-17-17
This was a difficult story to cover, I'm sure as the number of lives that were changed by the tragic events are unimaginable. The recount of the pertinent events was a bit confusing at times and I found myself rewinding occasionally to understand the content. There were just so many important details to this case.
I was left wanting to understand "why?" To Die For was a precise timeline of the facts but I was hoping for a deeper dive into the psyche of this killer.
Altogether well done, narration was good and I was engaged in the content. I just did not feel emotionally connected and I missed that a bit.

I wasn't sure?
Revisado: 03-17-17
I have to admit, when I started this book I just wasn't sure. I was underwhelmed by the narration and the first few paragraphs. Typically if I'm not entranced by the first sentence I find myself drifting through the entire book, only half listening. By Chapter 3 I realized I was eager for any opportunity to push play. It didn't take long for me to fall comfortably into these characters.
I was pleasantly surprised by the 'surprise' connection of the characters and the parallel stories in this book. I was a bit disappointed in myself that I didn't figure out the connection sooner. I'm usually not surprised by your typical twists and have figured it out long before the author confirms my suspicions. This one kept me curious and I realized the twist was coming about 5 minutes before the author dropped the final clues. Well done!
Narration, while not initially impressive, easily became the perfect flow, voice and tone for these characters. Becket Royce brought these characters to life for me and I couldn't imagine Casey, Rosetta or Angela any other way.
Overall, well done. I will re-read.
