life changing!
Revisado: 09-26-24
I'm an RN, ironically a hospice RN. I deal with a lot of diseases processes that are in their final stages. I have had sunas on my mind lately and this book has confirmed what I believe. A personal story with antidotal, but significant outcome based theories. 100% worth the read. I'm getting a sauna!!!

Historia
Chava is a golem, a woman made of clay, who can hear the thoughts and longings of those around her and feels compelled by her nature to help them. Ahmad is a jinni, a restless creature of fire, once free to roam the desert but now imprisoned in the shape of a man. Fearing they’ll be exposed as monsters, these magical beings hide their true selves and try to pass as human - just two more immigrants in the bustling world of 1900s Manhattan. Brought together under calamitous circumstances, their lives are now entwined - but they’re not yet certain of what they mean to each other.

Historia
When Gerda Kohl moves from the home in which she raised her family to a posh new retirement center, she must decide what to take with her and what to leave behind. This includes not only photographs, furniture, and mementos but weightier items, too - warring daughters, rebellious grandchildren, and the ghosts of a past that seems increasingly more real than the present.

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

Historia
At a time when health care is going through major change, nurses - known for being highly capable in a crisis - are being forced to take on more responsibilities. In this increasingly stressful environment, nurses need new ways to make sure they are taking care of themselves so they don't succumb to the physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion of caring for everyone else. Although it outlines the problems nurses face, this book is not about trying to change the working environment.

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.

disturbing
Revisado: 08-25-18
This book is the only book in my library I would remove completely, the content is so disturbing it is vulgar. I listened to it in entirety, which bothers me. We are fascinated by our own depravity as humans. It was so well written I had to give it 4 stars, even if it reaches the limit of describing the darkest part of humanity.

historical fiction worth listening to!
Revisado: 02-02-17
I realize that this is not an autobiography and it isn't necessarily accurate fiction ,in some places it is, and in other places it's not obviously. For those who want accurate nonfiction look in the nonfiction section. For those of us that enjoy a great story that touches on issues that affect many women this is it!

When Proof of Heaven was published, some people contacted Dr. Eben Alexander to argue that his near death experience was impossible. But many more have written to say his story resonated with them in profound ways.
