Historia
America’s backstory is a whitewashed mythology implanted in our collective memory. It should come as no surprise that the dominant narrative of American history is blighted with errors and oversights—after all, history books were written by white men with their perspectives at the forefront. It could even be said that the devaluation and erasure of the Black experience is as American as apple pie. In Black AF History, Michael Harriot presents a more accurate version of American history.

Revealing, Humorous, Controversial
Revisado: 11-17-23
This narrative weaves between the real history of events most of us learned as basically fair tales, history that is amazing but never taught, and rants that are Malcolm X in feeling (think if Malcolm X wrote Lies My Teacher Told Me). But, hey, it's "Black AF History", so true to name. Stirring, insightful, at times amazing, and others little over the top. But I don't regret the ride.

Heartfelt
Revisado: 09-02-23
Read by the author, which is usually a concern. (No one can be great at everything.) But that is not at all a bad thing here. No one else could portray the human events with their full meaning and heartfelt impact. Half biography, half medical mystery. Well worth the time to listen, even if the mystery isn't completely solved. Perhaps the story will inspire more to work on such mysteries.

Historia
This pioneering account sets out to understand the structure of the human brain - the place where mind meets matter. Until recently, the left hemisphere of our brain has been seen as the "rational" side, the superior partner to the right. But is this distinction true? Drawing on a vast body of experimental research, Iain McGilchrist argues while our left brain makes for a wonderful servant, it is a very poor master.

A Dichotomy
Revisado: 11-10-22
Loved it and hated it, but mostly loved. The topic is incredibly fascinating and illuminating. The book is long, but the first 4 or 5 chapters are a revelation of insight on hemispheres and brain function. The following chapters do a very good job supporting the thesis, but I find tremendously dense and difficult to get through. DON'T skip this book though. Even if you don't get though the whole thing, those first chapters are absolutely worth the effort!

Historia
Two of the boldest and most creative scientists of all time were Michael Faraday (1791-1867) and James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879). This is the story of how these two men - separated in age by 40 years - discovered the existence of the electromagnetic field and devised a radically new theory which overturned the strictly mechanical view of the world that had prevailed since Newton's time.

Learn about the U.S. Federal Reserve with iMinds insightful audio knowledge series. The Federal Reserve is stirring more excitement these days than is probably recommended for a central bank just shy of its 100th birthday. The Fed, tasked with fostering economic growth and price stability in the US, was ratified by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913.

The writers unfortunately know nothing about it
Revisado: 11-15-21
This is really a poor synopsis of the 2007 mortgage crisis, not the Fed. It's only 5 min., but I had to stop halfway through at the phrase this caused a deflationary spiral that threatened business. Tell me, how would buying more with the same amount of money and your employees buying more with the same salary threaten a business...

The Autobiography of Andrew Carnegie and The Gospel of Wealth

Historia
His good friend Mark Twain dubbed him "St. Andrew." British Prime Minister William Gladstone called him an "example" for the wealthy. Such terms seldom apply to multimillionaires. But Andrew Carnegie was no run-of-the-mill steel magnate. At age 13 and full of dreams, he sailed from his native Dunfermline, Scotland, to America. Here, in one volume, are two impressive works by Andrew Carnegie himself: his autobiography and The Gospel of Wealth, a groundbreaking manifesto on the duty of the wealthy to give back to society all of their fortunes.

Some parts are a bit slow but overall interesting!
Revisado: 04-29-21
This book covers Mr. Carnegie's entire life. I particular liked listened about his childhood, early years, and parts of how he came to own so many businesses. Though the latter half of the book is a bit slower. I think he had a bit of good luck probably riding a massive industrial expansion in the US, so views are sometimes possibly a little rosey but still an insightful and fascinating life.

Not your average comedy. Adam recounts bits of his life in connected short stories. I wasn't sure if I'd even enjoy that, but I'm giving it 5 stars and even telling me wife she should listen. Excellent!

Historia
An accessible, light-hearted exploration into game theory. Haim Shapira describes what it is, why it is important, and how it can help us in our daily lives. This audiobook provides many humorous anecdotes and insightful examples of how our daily lives are affected by game theory. Game theory is the mathematical formalization of interactive decision-making - it assumes that each player's goal is to maximize his/her benefit, whatever it may be. Players may be friends, foes, political parties, states, or any entity that behaves interactively, whether collectively or individually.

Historia
Roger Lowenstein, the bestselling author of Buffett, captures Long-Term's roller-coaster ride in gripping detail. Drawing on confidential internal memos and interviews with dozens of key players, Lowenstein crafts a story that reads like a first-rate thriller from beginning to end. He explains not just how the fund made and lost its money, but what it was about the personalities of Long-Term's partners, the arrogance of their mathematical certainties, and the late-nineties culture of Wall Street that made it all possible.

Historia
Google Executive Chairman and ex-CEO Eric Schmidt and former SVP of Products Jonathan Rosenberg came to Google over a decade ago as proven technology executives. At the time, the company was already well-known for doing things differently, reflecting the visionary - and frequently contrarian - principles of founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. If Eric and Jonathan were going to succeed, they realized they would have to relearn everything they thought they knew about management and business.

Good, but at times a little self-righteous
Revisado: 12-20-18
a lot of good commentary. I found much of this to be very true. At times the authors seem to mistake their good fortune on being the front of a bubble as purely their own talent. But overall very good story.
