Historia
Brandi Carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of Seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, 14 times in as many years. Though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. At the age of five, Brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.

Read the book first, then listened via Audible. An inspiring book about loving yourself throughout your journey, and going after your dreams. Loved hearing BC’s personality come through the audiobook. The bonus of music played and sung throughout the book is a gift from the author. Thanks BC.

Historia
In these new essays, Williams explores the concept of erosion: of the land, of the self, of belief, of fear. She wrangles with the paradox of desert lands and the truth of erosion: What is weathered, worn, and whittled away through wind, water, and time is as powerful as what remains. Our undoing is also our becoming.

I cannot recommend this book enough. Were it required reading for young people everywhere, the world would be better for it.
Malala Yousafzai is an extraordinary person, and this book - her life story (so far) in her own words - will captivate, astound, and inspire you.

Historia
Brigham Young was a rough-hewn craftsman from New York whose impoverished and obscure life was electrified by the Mormon faith. He trudged around the United States and England to gain converts for Mormonism, spoke in spiritual tongues, married more than 50 women, and eventually transformed a barren desert into his vision of the Kingdom of God. While previous accounts of his life have been distorted by hagiography or polemical exposé, John Turner provides a fully realized portrait of a colossal figure in American religion, politics, and westward expansion.

A different and incredible biography of LDS Prophet Brigham Young
Revisado: 09-01-18
This is an eye-opening, and sometimes shocking biography of Brigham Young, the man who became the 2nd Prophet of the LDS Church after the Church’s founder, Joseph Smith was murdered.
I grew up a Mormon, and still am. My ancestors were Mormon pioneers who obeyed the instruction from their Prophet, Brigham Young, to abandon their lives and their home country of Denmark to make the long, dangerous journey to Utah (“Zion”).
I thought I knew who Brigham Young was, and what his life’s story was, having learned about him since I was 4 years old in church.
After reading this book, I realized how little I knew about the actual life of this man. It was as if I was learning about a completely different, yet somewhat familiar person. I was shocked and also fascinated.
The book is extremely well researched, documented, and very well written. IT IS NOT A BOOK that tries to demonize or make Brigham Young a villain. It is not “anti-Mormon” literature, which Mormons are instructed to avoid. It merely documents the events in his life that the LDS Church does not teach its members about.
It is truly fantastic read. It‘s fresh, and it’s an eye-opening look at the life of one of the most successful men who led thousands of pioneers to move West, to settle and build new communities across the American West during the late 19th century.
But, at what cost? Read this book and you will find out.

For years, America's national parks have provided public breathing spaces in a world in which such spaces are steadily disappearing, which is why close to 300 million people visit the parks each year. Now, to honor the centennial of the National Park Service, Terry Tempest Williams, the author of the beloved memoir When Women Were Birds, returns with The Hour of Land, a literary celebration of our national parks, what they mean to us, and what we mean to them.

Anyone who wants more out of life but doesn't know how to get it ought to read this book, but I'd go as far as to say that it should be required reading for the Millennial generation as they come of age.
Very well-written, funny, insightful, and inspiring. There is a lot of wisdom in this book, and through his own experience, Offerman teaches like a boss.

I can almost hear him laughing an evil sinister laugh as the checks come rolling in from this book. "Tremendous. Those suckers will believe anything! And I'm going to make a killing off of them!"
