Historia
Travel is the opposite of prejudice; it is curiosity, openness and connection. When our world is in flux, travel matters more than ever. It is the only way to go beyond the narratives that are fed to us, and understand the world through your own experience. Understanding does not automatically come from travel. You have to work for it. And, with barriers and restrictions coming and going at a dizzying rate, now is the time to learn how to eke the most out of whatever travel opportunities we are able to seize.

I'm confused..
Revisado: 03-29-22
Isn't this book supposed to be about travel? I understand the need to understand the history of the places you are traveling, but I didn't get this book for that. I couldn't get past the 2nd chapter.
I also usually love it when the author reads his own book, but the fast paced monotone reading about the deep history of a place lost me.

Historia
After her brother died unexpectedly and her mother moved into a dementia-care facility, spiritual travel writer and Episcopal deacon Lori Erickson felt called to a new quest: to face death head-on, with the eye of a tourist and the heart of a pastor. Blending memoir, spirituality, and travel, Near the Exit examines how cultures confront and have confronted death by investigating Egypt's Valley of the Kings, Mayan temples, Colorado cremation pyres, Day of the Dead celebrations, Maori settlements, and tourist-destination graveyards.

Not What Was Expected
Revisado: 03-25-22
I stopped listening after a couple chapters. When I first heard about this book it was as a travel guide to different regions with interesting death related culture. That is NOT what this is.
The author is very Christian and discusses how non-christian these burial cultures are. Well, duh! Egypt is NOT a Christian nation. I was also offended by some of her joking about what other religions believe will happen in the after life.
If you are looking for a non-biased, culturally aware and informative book on other religions, look elsewhere.

Not as good as the first one
Revisado: 05-16-21
Will Wheaton (of course) is phenomenal. However, the story is slow to start and not as good as Ready Player 1.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 12-30-17
Due to the narrator, this book came across more as a text book than a beginner's guide. Though informative, it was hard to follow.
