Historia
At 28, Stephanie Land's dreams of attending a university and becoming a writer quickly dissolved when a summer fling turned into an unplanned pregnancy. Before long, she found herself a single mother, scraping by as a housekeeper to make ends meet. Maid is an emotionally raw, masterful account of Stephanie's years spent in service to upper-middle-class America as a "nameless ghost" who quietly shared in her clients' triumphs, tragedies, and deepest secrets.

Lovely book, ignore the bad reviews
Revisado: 12-01-21
It's a lovely, honest account of someone's interesting and difficult struggle to get out of poverty. The narration is not the most eloquent, but it's good enough. The horrible reviews here makes me wonder how much people really hate the poor. It is almost like she is not allowed to be a person, who make mistakes and feels desperate at times. I wanted to offer the author a hug at the end. A lot of what she went through might not have been quite as traumatic if so many didn't feel the need to punish her for being poor (which newsflash, is already quite the punishment).

I'm writing this here mainly to let readers know to read this AFTER book 7, as it references a couple of things that happened in that book and had me going "huh?".

Historia
Environmental devastation and economic chaos have turned America into a land of horrifying depravity. Assault, theft, sexual abuse, slavery, and murder are commonplace. And a zealous, bigoted tyrant has won his way into the White House. Directly opposed is Lauren Olamina, founder of Earthseed - a new faith that teaches "God Is Change". Persecuted for "heathen" beliefs as much as for having a Black female leader, Earthseed's followers face a life-and-death struggle to preserve their vision.

Not quite. But he has a plan.

Beautiful Sci-fi fairy tale
Revisado: 05-18-19
I'm a fan of the writer, and this is up there with her very best work. So unique and lovely, so enthralling. Not for you if you need every single thing to make sense, this book will take you down the improbable road to the impossible city, and if you go with child-like wonder, you will not be sorry.
