The twist was ok, but the story was too detailed and repetitive. When there was a dramatic pause, I would say the next line before it was read to me.

It’s hard to enjoy a book when you don’t care about the characters. Then it became drama for the sake of drama.

And little mistakes always bug me, such as, why would a naked man put on his boxer shorts to go take a shower?

I wouldn’t recommend this book. The narrator did well considering the material she was given.

Thank you Liz for everything you do. I’m a California Democrat, but if you ever run for President, you have my vote.

I watched every January 6th hearing and each was masterfully done. The kind of integrity and love of our country you have is genuine.

I hope and pray that good will defeat evil, as it must. Thank you for doing all you can to save our beloved country and our freedoms from those in power who only want to destroy it.

We can and will prevail with you at the helm.

Growing up during the 60’s and 70’s, this was a blast from the past. I knew who Ron and Clint Howard were, but I really enjoyed the stories of their childhood, and the upbringing by their parents.

What a remarkable time.

I’ve been a huge fan of movies since I was a kid. Hearing stories of George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfus and the like, gave me a thrill.

I’m blown away by the love this family shared, and it’s such a testimony to live without fear. Go for your dreams! You can never go wrong.

I watched the January 6th hearings last year and I remember being glued to the TV during Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony. She was captivating to watch and she oozed with truthfulness, integrity, and morality.

I was struck that such a young person held such a position so close to power. It was fascinating to hear her account of events that occurred behind the scenes during January 6th, which I watched unfold during that violent attack on our Capitol and on our democracy.

I’m glad she narrated the book herself.

I concluded that she was a Trump loyalist, but realized that was wrong. She was loyal to the President who happened to be Trump at the time.

She was and IS loyal to America and democracy, honesty, and truth.

Her father is a despicable piece of crap and that part made me sad for her, but she’s got loving and caring people in her life and she’s a remarkable woman who has made her mark in history, for all the right reasons.

I highly recommend this book!

This book is just plain fun. My husband and I listened at home on our Alexa speaker. The narrator, Ray Porter, is fantastic. He really knows how to engage the reader. Ten out of Ten!

I wanted to give this 3 stars but It kept my interest, not for all the best reasons, and I like the Matthew Perry I know - Chandler and that guy in When Fools Rush In.

I really enjoyed the first half too, the good stuff, his friendships, Friends, Julia Roberts. It was fun to learn these things.

The second half though… the fear and loathing, the relapses, the medical problems, the addiction that always came back when in fact, it never went away.

My father was an alcoholic and he chose alcohol over me. He chose it over my sister and our mom, and over his own grandchild.

Alcoholism is not a disease. You can’t quit a disease. You can’t just stop a disease. My mom died of cancer. She wanted to quit cancer. She couldn’t.

I’m kind of sorry I read this. Yes it kept my interest, but I know more than I wish I did. It’s like the memory of my childhood home. It was remodeled and sold and I saw the photos on MLS. It’s hard to unsee that. If I try really hard to see how is was, those images fade because I saw it after the changes.

I was grateful I stuck it out to hear the last chapter. I’m happy that he was finally able to come to terms with himself. I hope it lasts.

I guess my biggest issue was the fact that he had all the money and resources in the world. There are so many people out there struggling that want help and if they had the resources available, they would make such a difference.

Matthew Perry earned millions and money was never an issue, yet he relapsed again and again. If he really wanted to get help, he could have, but he just went through the motions. He says it himself, many times, he knew he would use again. I have a hard time with that.

He also talks about trying to feel happy and that’s what the drugs do, but then twice he says he was so happy the two years he was sober and helping others and strong. It just made the drug use feel like such a cop out, an excuse.

We all have struggles in our lives, but you have to learn and grow if you want things to change.

The self-inflicted suffering and the pain he caused others was hard for me to reconcile.

He’s got the money and resources to help so many people and doing that would fill his heart with the joy he’s been chasing his whole life. It’s easy to see because we’re not inside his head. He was happiest when he was sober and helping people. Those are HIS words.

So do that.

I’ve listened to many audiobooks... biographies, self-improvement, memoirs, etc.

This book is different, and in the best possible way.

From the very beginning it was as evident as a punch in the face that Matthew McConaughey was raised in an unusual family. Different than my own, or anyone I knew, yes, but different than I had even seen portrayed on TV, movies, or in books.

This explains a lot about him and was a great foundation for this book on his life, beliefs, values, and being.

I was hooked from the start!

The stories he tells are human and crazy and funny as hell. And his poems are sprinkled throughout the book in such a way that you feel he’s preaching his sermon and you were lucky enough to be there when he did.

This is not a self-help book or an autobiography. It’s a lesson on life and mostly it’s about what life really can be, depending on your perspective.

It’s a lesson on taking responsibility for yourself, for your wants and needs and dreams. It’s about what can happen when you follow your own path without fear and self doubt. It’s about taking a leap of faith when it’s right and following your intuition with action.

I will cherish this book and listen again soon. He’s a great narrator and story teller too.

Loved it!

Oh I LOVED this audiobook!

I’ve always loved true stories and memoirs and this did not disappoint. If you love travel, adventure, treasure hunting, mystery, and pirates... you’ll love this book.

Extremely well written, well researched, and narrated. I plowed through this so fast! Now I’m going to have to find more books on treasure hunting.

I enjoyed the first half of this book but later it got repetitive and frankly I got bored.

I wanted to hear more about his business and how that changed his life but the last few hours are really about going back and forth with his feelings about travel vs don’t travel.

I’m not a nomad so I couldn’t relate.

I love to travel but I also love having a home base. So please factor that into this review.

I was really intrigued by the story that got such great reviews. To hear the perspective of someone so close to him was enticing.

The beginning was good and I understood how she could feel taken in by this man. But then, it fell apart for me.

I was in an abusive type of relationship for about 9 months so I understand the emotional ups and downs of living with an unstable, controlling person.

The latter part of this book was a struggle for me to finish. Full of self loathing, enabling, and sympathy for the devil, I had a rough time listening to the rest. I kept hoping there would be a change. Maybe sympathy for the murdered victims. He murdered a twelve year old girl! He was seeing another woman! Yet, she always seemed to overlook these unbearable actions.

I managed to listen until the end. I was glad for the afterword, but it still felt like she has trouble reconciling her relationship with him.

Molly, the daughter, was the saving grace, the light in the darkness. I can’t imagine growing up, trusting someone who you truly cared for, and finding out what a monster he really was, and that your mom knew! But she always reasoned her way out of reality.

I actually got upset at the end when Molly talked about burning his letter to her and Liz told her it was ok but Molly kept her from having closure.

Really?! Sorry, but your therapists have failed you. Molly was right to burn the letter.

Ugh. I do feel bad for them, but after a time, once you see the truth, you need to look at reality and step away from your feelings. HE WAS A MONSTER! Plain and simple. And you both are lucky to be alive.

I sincerely hope you can both push him into the background and move forward with your lives.
