First let me say- I love Lisa Klepas. I love Mary Jane Wells. I loved this story but the reading is ALL wrong! It absolutely RUINED the book for me.

If you’ve read and are a fan of the 4 preceding “Wallflower” books- this is a serious disappointment.

I have never hated a Mary Jane Wells reading. They are always good and I believe this one would be good if one is reading it as a stand alone and knows absolutely nothing about the characters to begin.

Obviously Ms. Wells was not told about the characters previous to recording because “Westcliff” sounds like a 75 year old pompous clown and “Matthew Swift” has an Irish accent (he’s American from Boston) that’s just the worst. I blame producers for not catching it!

Now, I had the Roslyn Landor version and was happy with it but I seems that Audible took it from me when I bought the new version… that’s a whole other issue.

I hated it so much I couldn’t even finish this version and now I can’t even listen to the old version.

So unhappy. So much wasted money.

This audiobook is not an abridged version of the book, it is its own unabridged version. The ending is totally different in each version- though the overall out come is the same. Both versions are good. The audio version has a cleaner more concise journey to the overall outcome, where as the book has more twists and turns in its journey to the overall outcome.
But the story in general is a very good one and is very sexy indeed!!
I gave it 4 stars overall only because honestly, pick a version and stick with it!

I have to admit, I’ve listened and read this multiple times. I love the story and the characters... the steamy scenes are a bonus.

I will say this about those steamy scenes though... The wording and word choices used to narrate and describe those scenes felt jarring and that it took away from the romance, intimacy and excitement of the moment.
It could have been in the narrators performance as well not just the writing.

The narrator is really good, with the exception of when he’s narrating... meaning his character readings and dialogue parts are AWESOME. He does an amazing job of bringing moments to life and filling your imagination with rich visuals through his voice and performance. BUT the “Narrator” parts of his reading sound very robotic and flat. Greatly taking away from the story and causing it to loose... something. As well as it being annoying as hell. I almost stopped listening it annoyed me so badly, but the story kept me and I’m extremely glad I stayed with it.

The story and character performances, out weighed the narrative performance and hooked me.

If you want to cry, laugh while feeling an array of emotions, and don’t mind getting a little hot and bothered... this is for you.

Erotic (and surprisingly timeless) Love Story

Amazingly intimate, romantic and well developed love story!!

It is definitely erotic and more than steamy. It’s raw not just in the sex, and the desire but in the honesty of emotions revealed through it’s wonderful character development.

Though the setting is the 19th century English Seaside- it has a timeless quality. The characters are relatable in the sense that the feelings, emotions and desires are relevant to anyone who feels “damaged” in one way or another... the joy, love and redemption felt between the main characters is hopeful, and refreshing.

You will happy cry. You will sad cry. You will laugh and your heart will pound with anticipation...

I also really enjoy Victoria McGloven as a narrator!
