Enjoyable character!

Easy enjoyable read! I like Ten as a character. The detective element is a unique way to bring together Buddhism and LA.

Arthur Parnassus lives a good life built on the ashes of a bad one. He’s the headmaster of a strange orphanage on a distant and peculiar island, and he hopes to soon be the adoptive father to the six dangerous and magical children who live there. Arthur works hard and loves with his whole heart so none of the children ever feel the neglect and pain that he once felt as an orphan on that very same island so long ago. Excellent writing, terrible reading
Revisado: 11-02-24
I loved this book. I really really disliked the narrator. How could he have been so amazing in the first book and so awful in the second??? The writing was exceptional as always, but the narration… I could barely get past it. Don’t EMOTE for me!!! I’ll emote myself. I don’t need the narrator to try to use his voice to push me in one direction by overly dramatizing the novel. The novel is beautiful. I am already engaged. The reading actually DISENGAGED me from the connection I had to the story.

Historia
Let's pretend that I was killed on that day, when I wasn't. The day when my guardian angel managed to throw my F-86F half a second from becoming a fireball in the desert, up into a clear sky, way above what would have been the impact point. If she hadn't done this, if she hadn't spared my life time after time in the 80-some years that we've been together, I wouldn't have written this book that brings those strange times together, and suggests why we choose any lifetime in the first place.

Not engaging, TERRIBLE NARRATION
Revisado: 05-21-24
I don’t know where to start with this novella. I love Richard Bach’s books. I suppose the story itself was ok. Not exciting and my ideas of the afterlife don’t coincide super well with RB’s interpretation. That’s ok, I still found some great concepts in this very short story. It’s the NARRATION that ruined this experience. The narrator, Todd NAPPER has no voice variety, no emotive qualities, and no feel for pauses or storytelling. It’s genuinely terrible. It ruined what little I did enjoy from the story, completely. Trust me, do NOT buy the audible version of this short story.

Great story… but… the abuse isn’t ok
Revisado: 10-25-21
Here’s the thing… I loved the story. Loved the creativity. Loved the mythology. Did NOT live that CeCe’s mother somehow made the fact that CeCe’s father hit CeCe in the face leaving a large purple bruise ‘okay’. As strong as Cece is, she ends this novel happily heading home to her drunk, cruel, abusive father, and weak, timid, accepting mother. After fighting the dark criatura, and finding her inner strength, it’s all ‘well, hey it’s ok that dad hit me… he was drunk…’ was disappointing at best and irresponsible of the author at worst.
