Historia
Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Writing at its Best.
Revisado: 03-06-21
The book that will remain in my thoughts and my heart forever. So much wisdom on each page. My favorite line, “when everything is gone, what is left is love.”

Historia
While Eve examines a fresh body in Washington Square Park, her husband, Roarke, spots a man among the onlookers he’s known since his younger days on the streets of Dublin. A man who claims to be his half brother. A man who kills for a living - and who burns with hatred for him. Eve is quick to suspect that the victim’s spouse - resentful over his wife’s affair and poised to inherit her fortune - would have happily paid an assassin to do his dirty work. Roarke is just as quick to warn her that if Lorcan Cobbe is the hitman, she needs to be careful.

The Best In Death story.
Revisado: 09-16-20
Out of all the In Death series, this book is the very best. Each of the police characters we’ve grown to know and love play major roles along with Eve and Rourke. It is a heart warming story along with the desired intensity.

Nora Roberts at her BEST!
Revisado: 08-04-19
One of the best novels I have ever read. One in a million story that takes the reader through every emotion. From white knuckle to joy you meet characters you wish you knew. Ultimately it is a celebration of kindness.

Historia
Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away.

Superb writing by Louise Penny!
Revisado: 10-14-13
What did you love best about How the Light Gets In?
How the Light Get's In is packed full of story lines and relationships that grab you and won't let go.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Always, Inspector Gamache has to be my favorite. An honorable, thoughtful, loving man is a rare breed and he is all three.
What about Ralph Cosham’s performance did you like?
Ralph Cosham was masterful at presenting each character with a unique voice and attitude. What he does is magical. I was thoroughly amazed to learn later that he does not pre-read before a performance. I believe this added to the feeling of urgency to keep going to learn the final outcome.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found myself totally involved with this book. I could feel the warmth of the story as well as an anxiety to see the end result presented. At times I laughed out loud and at times I would pause just to let all the tumultuous feelings sort themselves out.
Any additional comments?
Many people put ideas on paper. I have read constantly since childhood. It is rare to find an author who is a true 'writer' in every sense of the word. As always I look forward to what is next for Inspector Gamache and Louise Penny.

Lighthearted listen.
Revisado: 04-27-12
Where does Completely Smitten rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
New to audiobooks. I found this predictable but lighthearted and enjoyed the story. The male character was not always believable being performed by a female voice.
