Historia
When our partner is a narcissist, only those who've actually experienced the madness will ever understand what we're going through. When Love Is a Lie is a straight-up, tell-all book about narcissism in relationships that skips the clinical bullshit to focus solely on the personal experience. A narrative that holds nothing back, Zari Ballard's story will educate, enlighten, and empower you to evaluate (and fully understand) the mind-boggling dysfunction in your own relationship.

Not Good
Revisado: 08-19-24
I consider my review “constructive criticism”. The writing was extremely repetitive and just general information with no real insight at all. She mentions many times she has a blog and this seemed like it was just a bunch of similar blogs thrown together. I have read dozens of books on domestic abuse and narcissistic personalities and this book was the worst I’ve read.
The woman who reads it, through no fault of her own, was not edited properly, leaving in her multitude of sniffles and mouse clicks for the computer prompts. I do not recommend this book to anyone.
“Why does he do that” by Lundy Bancroft is a great book so if you’re looking for help and information, I’d start there.

Historia
Recruited into the fundamentalist Quiverfull movement as a young wife, Tia Levings learned that being a good Christian meant following a list of additional life principles—a series of secret, special rules to obey. Being a godly and submissive wife in Christian Patriarchy included strict discipline, isolation, and an alternative lifestyle that appeared wholesome to outsiders. Women were to be silent, “keepers of the home.” A Well-Trained Wife is an unforgettable memoir about a woman's race to save herself and her family and details the ways that extreme views can manifest in a marriage.

A Poignant Reminder of Losing the Self
Revisado: 08-14-24
People often forget, or never find out, the value of knowing yourself without a god, man, or anyone and anything else getting in the way. It can be dangerous to live outside of yourself for both you and those around you. Bad education all over the world poses a threat to this sacred self, mainly stemming from religiosity.
This story is a beautifully written reminder of how treacherous these fables can be. I could not put the book down until I finished. It was a reminder of how far I’ve come from the backwards thinking of the fundamentalist Christian god to the fully autonomous person I am today.
I highly recommend!

Great story and a great read. The editing of the audio could use a bit of work but glad it’s even on audible!
