Best compilation of the factual
Revisado: 07-25-22
I read the blurb and a few reviews siting the Warrens as part of the book’s inspiration. They intrigued me to purchase the audible version. I’m glad I did.
At first it read like a YA story, but didn’t take long to hold an old lady’s fascination.
I loved Vera. Her fears felt realistic and carried her story to the end. Max acted the perfect hero and sidekick to Vera.
The action of the demon, it’s characteristics and mantra both horrified me and hooked me to keep listening.
I didn’t feel the book pandered in any way. I recommend it to anyone who loves soft horror and intrigue.
I’m looking forward to her next book.

Summoned by a friend, ex-cop Cam Richter agrees to do a favor: investigate the assault of a young woman in a remote area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Cam knows the misty hills and shadowed hollers of the park, and his outdoor skills might break a case that local cops can't - or maybe don't want to - solve.

Hooked me right away
Revisado: 06-06-22
This is the second book by P.T. I’ve read. I took a chance and I wasn’t disappointed. When Cam is asked to help a friend, he risks his life and his dogs to find the truth behind a young woman’s attack. That’s not the end of the story because it opens the door to a second situation; to find young girls being trafficked.
I have to tell you the plot and conflict kept me listening to the end not wanting to stop.
My only drawback is the narrator. He’s good except he drops his voice at crucial parts in a paragraph or sentence and you can’t hear what he said. His voice is low and when he gets softer the listener can’t hear him. It was irritating, but it was as if I’d skipped a paragraph here and there. As a writer all the words are important so the narrator needs to make sure to keep his tone up.

Historia
Marion Sharpe and her mother seem an unlikely duo to be found on the wrong side of the law. Quiet and ordinary, they have led a peaceful and unremarkable life at their country home, The Franchise. Unremarkable that is, until the police turn up with a demure young woman on their doorstep. Not only does Betty Kane accuse them of kidnap and abuse, she can back up her claim with a detailed description of the attic room in which she was kept, right down to the crack in its round window.

A well thought out plot
Revisado: 06-25-21
The blurb intrigued me. The beginning set up took a long time to get through. I stopped and started listening to it over the period of 4 weeks. I loved the reader. She did an excellent job with the different voices and nuances.
When Robert took on the roll of helping Mrs. Sharp and her daughter after being accused of kidnapping and beating a young girl, I wondered how this would end.
This author tends to digress quite often in telling this story. Just when the story got interesting I had to listen to bits of observation from Robert.
What kept me coming back to the story were the characters and wondering how Robert would get the two women out of their predicament.
The author wove quite a reveal. I love it when true justice is served and this was handed to the perpetrator in a flourish.
If you can manage to weave through the excessive diatribe you will be richly rewarded. However the very ending left me confused. .

Revisado: 01-07-20
At the beginning I struggled to get through all the detail. As a writer I know the beginning is the set up and often it takes determination to absorb all the information you’ll be glad to have read later on. I like the main character. She wasn’t terrible at her job more was she a crack shot detective. What kept me reading was the finely woven story line. When I got to the end I thought the story had been well crafted. I appreciate twists and keeping the perp hidden solitude no clues. My only drawback was a loose end that was never resolved. Spoiler***** Why was the gun thrown into the lake? Why was the husband put in jail? Did he not know who did it? If so then how did the jewelry and gun get tossed? Hmm?

This story will hook you
Revisado: 11-14-19
I found this plot to be masterfully crafted. I was hooked to listening to this reader. The beginning and setup had a slow start, but I stuck it out and I'm glad I did. As our main character, Rebecca, began to investigate her father's death the author introduces a variety of characters to guide us through the process.
While I feel the beginning had too many characters that didn't really have anything to do with the story as in Olivia and her boyfriend, the author, Their relationship never went anywhere in the story and could have been left out. However Ricky who isn't even mentioned in the book blurb is one of the key characters in the story. As a reader you have sympathy and compassion for the young man's choices.
I loved Grace and she was well depicted. I had a visual of her that stayed the same to the end.
My only drawback is the author's depiction of Rebecca about the middle to the end of the book. I actually had to fast forward through her whining stage. I disliked the author choosing to weaken the character by having her go over and over the issue of Ash's betrayal. We got it at the beginning. a quick reminder of her hurt is enough without rehashing the whole scenario.
I loved the end when he finally told her the real reason for his dislike of the cabins. It felt real, I could empathize with how he reacted and his reasons. This all fit into his character. Not so with Becca.
There are a lot of characters in this book and I came to love and dislike everyone. I did have the niggling feeling about the main king pin revealed at the end. My devious mind works that way.
What also connected to me was, in my course of work, I have seen the names of these places. At the end when 100 Mile House came up, I had just seen that city.
I loved the reader's rendition of the story. I will look for her work as well as this author's other work

Good narrator
Revisado: 08-23-19
I enjoyed the ply structure. The basic idea of a woman separated from her husband after losing their children.
The build up a the mother having mental issue isn’t new but finding a young boy in her home is devastating.
They style of narration was annoying beyond belief. I’m not talking about the reader. Tessa is certifiable. Hearing her thoughts drive me nuts after awhile and I began to fast forward so I didn’t have to hear her.
The supporting characters were well thought out. I believe the story came to like them.

After taking JP Masterclass he spoke about writing this series. I hadn’t read any of his books and this concept intrigued me.
He hooked me. The crime scene description as itches ME collected samples stuck with me. In the Napa Valley crime again my mind stuck with the clue.
I believed it was the person the collared. I had my doubts. The story is woven in a way that kelp me listening even when I shouldn’t.
I will listen to his next book. I hope he doesn’t lose the suspense as is the case in most series writers

A good plot but....
Revisado: 01-09-19
The synopsis sounded interesting. I read both good and critical reviews and decided to take a chance. It doesn’t have re-readable quality. The plot is just what I like; varied and twisting. It was a story I could put down and reconnect.
Beecher is forgettable. He has no character qualities that connect to readers. He’s weak, he’s not smart, he’s like Columbo without any logic to win at the end.
This is the first Brad Meltzer book I’ve read. I won’t give away anything but all through the book I wanted someone I felt strongly about. For awhile it was Clementine and even her father but alas Brad basically wrote off all the good characters. They just didn’t know it.
Let me address the plot. Here is where Brad excels. The layout, the dead ends and plot points are spot on. As a writer I look for the thing that keeps me reading. In this book it’s not character. It’s plot. I kept wondering where the story was going and who were the good guys and bad guys. I continued to listen. It’s a good thing I had this on audio since I speed read and skip the boring parts. In this case I rarely jumped ahead.
To sum it up. The plot is a maze if you like that kind of reading. The style is a challenge but the chapters are short to keep the reader engaged. I can’t recommend this to everyone. You have to suspend reality and read the plot. Brad Meltzer is a good story teller but horrible writing characters.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Riveting and informative
Revisado: 12-27-18
I’m a true crime junkie. When I first heard about this book I set it aside thinking it would be another book written like many others detailing the investigation.
I started listening the day after Christmas to fill in time as I worked. It didn’t take long to discover this book wasn’t written like any other. I’m glad I bought the audio and not the written version. I would have missed the thing that hooked me for a day and a half.
Hearing the back stories of victims and law enforcement drew me even closer to the story. Details of how Paul Holes entered the picture and how this story wouldn’t have had this ending without him. I was captured by the way each audio file supported the chapters. I’m curious how the printed version looks.
This version recounts by individuals their personal involvement with the case as a victim or an investigator. Sometimes retold by a family member of the deceased.
I can’t begin to explain how listening to this audio version of the book will give You an in-depth understanding of both sides of this story. Don’t put it on the back burner for later. Buy it today

But as a favor to his ex-wife, he meets with the mother of twelve-year-old Joel, a boy poisoned by tainted children's medicine. My new favorite Author
Revisado: 09-07-18
I haven’t read all of JG books but I have watched the movies. Victor is a great story teller. There are no new plots just diverse characters and settings.
Victor Method has done this. While the outcome is expected, it’s the journey that captured my interest.
I listen to it to and from work and any time I had a free moment. I love his characters and the way he guides the story into cliff hangers that kept me from pressing the stop button
My only criticism is the reader. His voice changes weren’t always correct. Especially within a chapter. The same person could be talking but they edited it and his voice changed. It was distracting. Not so bad that I turned it off, but I wouldn’t use him again or I’d fire the voice editor. Can’t wait to get another one.
