Funny and enjoyable but needs a trigger warning

For attempted sexual assault. It's just a brief thing at the end of chapter five, maybe thirty seconds long, but it exists and I don't want anyone to be surprised. It's generally a very funny story, and I greatly enjoyed and recommend it, but there is that tiny little blip (probably added for realism, it's not treated lightly) and I know that's a trigger for some folks.

As for the rest, the main character has a good sense of humor and I had a lovely listen. I picked up a bit of what ancient Rome actually was like, too. The sample is a very good reflection of what the whole thing is like. If you liked the sample, you'll like the whole audiobook

Absolutely incredible

The narrator is a doctor working on pain medicine at Mayo Clinic and she comes across as so very genuinely compassionate and speaking directly to you. I really, really loved the deep dive into central sensitization. If all the neurology talk puts you off, you can skip that chapter. It can be a bit overwhelming. But I would just pause, look up whatever they were talking about, and go back to it.

This is information condensed into a format that I can generally understand (there's just that one chapter that's tricky) and have not found anywhere else. Not in any other book, website, video, none of it. Not at a level I can understand, in a place I can find, covering the broad swath she did, and backed by all the evidence she provided.

If you have chronic pain, read it. If you have to get an Audible membership just to be able to read this with your first free book, do it. This is gold

i feel like I learned a lot in this series about the science and why of meditating but I expected to have at least one episode at the very least talking about the nitty gritty of how to do so and guiding you through it, and I didn't get that. Then I was like, okay maybe there will be a suggestion at the end of a follow up podcast on how to actually do it step by step. Nope. Definite let down in what was otherwise a really good series

100% predictable story

As in, I was literally able to predict exact lines before they said them. At least 50% of the story was also people saying "It can't be done so don't bother trying, Julius/Marcy"! Even though the alternative was to die, and the plan was actually perfectly practical. I took to skipping to the second half of every chapter, which helped weed out some of that, but the predictability element was still there. Even though I've invested all the time reading all the other books in the series, I didn't even finish reading this one, that's how uninspiring it was. It's not terrible, therefore 3 stars, but it's nowhere near the quality of the other books.

Love the series, but ugh, the pronunciation!

The name Qi Lin is said over and over and they say it wrong! If you are familiar with Chinese at all, it's going to bug the heck out of you. Other than that, it's fantastic! I love the plot itself

Good story bad narration

I loved the book and was excited to see the audiobook companion. But WOW, the narrator voice is grating and jilted, and her impression of a male voice sounds like a cave man. Wonderful story carries through, but ugh, that voice.
