The story is poorly written and in the first person. It is very sa forward and rapey. Body mutilation of victims is present. I understand not whitewashing historical characters, but outside of their correct setting and context, it feels cringe. I see people recommending this because it's based on Easter, and it shouldn't be. The FMC having a side piece is ridiculous. The king is a f-boy instead of a capable military leader. King Xerxes was a badass that killed the 300 of Sparta. The material was there. It was just executed very poorly. Religion aside, adding in all the stuff explained well in some of the other one-star reviews. The writer trying to put her on spin on a story missed the point on so many levels.
