First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her audiobook shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture clichés. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

Love her honesty, I hated to see this book end
Revisado: 03-11-20
I absolutely loved her book. It was a blast listening to something that was just so good, juicy, interesting, just fascinating. I hated to see it end! It feels like you're talking to a good friend and she just pulls you into her world. I enjoyed hearing her tell it too. It was just so honest. Almost TOO honest for her own good, haha. Loved hearing about her days coming up through the pop scene in the late 90s/early 00s. I loved hearing those Britney and Christina references as they all ran in the same circles. Though her voice is very strange and changes its sound constantly, it's kind of crazy, but it didn't bother me that much. When she's emotional or tearing up, it sounds like she's drunk, it's hard to describe. And there were a few truly emotional moments in this book where I was tearing up. I loved that she told her own story though. Just a great listen!

Lovely & fascinating but she told it so factually
Revisado: 01-30-20
I absolutely love Julie Andrews and thought this book was a lovely, fascinating listen. I loved that she narrated it herself, it felt like a gift, a warm hug to be able to hear her tell her story with her iconic voice! However, I wish she spoke a little bit more conversationally and with more emotion. At times, it felt like she was merely restating the facts. She had a pretty tough childhood and upbringing but felt it was read with little emotion or connection to the stories she was saying. I loved hearing about her life, career, adventures, kids - I felt like I really got to know her hearing her tell her story! I don't know why she wasn't able to be more expressive because she has quite an imagination and is quite a storyteller herself (aka the Whangdoodles!). As I saw another listener write, I also bought the hardback for my grandmother for Christmas, as I've enjoyed telling her about Julie's book along the way and thought she'd love the book!

Inspiring & uplifting but a tad long?!
Revisado: 01-30-20
Thought it was a really inspiring, uplifting listen and loved that Melinda narrated it herself. Felt like I was getting to know her by listening to this. I know this is about her various charity work and related stories (some were very eye-opening!), but I would have loved just a tad more about her personal/family life and kids! I felt equally as interested to learn more about her as a person, her interests, her daily life, her favorite books, role models, etc - which she adds a few tidbits in here and there but the stories she tells from across the world was the focal point. Rightfully so, but I was hoping for more of the personal angle too. I'm sorry to say that I got a bit bored by the end and was ready for it to be over! Maybe those stories felt a bit too long. All in all, I think the work she and Bill do is amazing - what a gift to be able to do what she does around the world!

Historia
You have a fulfilling job, a great group of friends, the perfect apartment, and no shortage of dates. So what if you haven’t found The One just yet? Surely he’ll come along, right? But what if he doesn’t? Or even worse, what if he already has, but you just didn’t realize it? Lori Gottlieb said the unthinkable in her March 2008 article in The Atlantic: Maybe she, and single women everywhere, needed to stop chasing Prince Charming and instead go for Mr. Good Enough.

Really interesting listen, a must
Revisado: 01-30-20
I thought it was a great listen, so insightful. Great perspective and something I really needed to hear. It really gave some great food for thought. Widening your net, being more open to finding someone that you may not have considered before. It's not about just marrying anyone, but someone that fits most of the qualities on your list but maybe comprising/being more open to others you may not have considered before. I loved Lori's recent book and wanted to check this one out too. The narrator isn't as good as in her therapist book, so I kept comparing it to that, so you kind of have to get used to a new voice that isn't as catchy or bubbly!

Fascinating, Insightful, Funny - An amazing listen
Revisado: 09-19-19
This was such an amazing book and the narrator also did an amazing job! I actually laughed out loud while listening to this book! While funny, it was also very insightful and touching at times too. It offers a really interesting look behind the curtain at therapy, which I found it to be really interesting and helpful. Her stories were just priceless and she also sheds on what therapy is all about, along with sharing her own experience seeing a therapist...it was all just fascinating!

Underwhelmed, was hoping for so much more!
Revisado: 07-27-19
I was hoping for so much more with Sally's book and story! The second half/last quarter of the book felt totally rushed and glossed over. Would have loved to hear more about her later movies, particularly wondering if she'd talk about Robin Williams from her Mrs. Doubtfire filming but "Mrs. Doubtfire" was literally just mentioned as one of the places her youngest son traveled with her to set. Her whole story was very fragmented (hence the in pieces title) but it didn't feel cohesive to me or easy to follow. Also had trouble following her relationship she described with her mother too, it didn't quite make sense to me. As another reviewer called it, I found the book depressing too. Wish she talked more about her success, coming up through Hollywood and much more (as others said as well). I'm sorry to say that I was wanting the book to be over it was so depressing/rushed, but had to finish it to see how it ended. Ehhh, sorry to say I wasn't thrilled. I wanted to love Sally's story because I think she's an interesting person but it just fell way flat after finishing Jane Fonda's AMAZING memoir prior to this one. Jane even gave updates on all her family, kids what they're up to now and everything, tied everything up so wonderfully!

Fascinating! Totally captured by her story...
Revisado: 06-30-19
This was an AMAZING listen! From the moment this book began, I was totally taken in, captured by her story and felt drawn into her world. Her emotionally absent parents and the neglect she felt as a result in early childhood stuck with her throughout her entire life which is apparent in the many experiences she shares throughout her life. It's fascinating how she now looking back sees all of those links and connections. She spends quite a bit of time on her "Hanoi Jane" days and Vietnam War activism, which I didn't find as interesting since that was a bit before my time and I just didn't find it as interesting, but it was a big piece of who Jane was at the time. Her time with Ted Turner was fascinating too -- 23 homes! I have now taken an interest to go and watch some of her older movies, so I've enjoyed seeing her in 9 to 5 and am watching On Golden Pond, which is just so fascinating to see knowing the relationship between her and her famous father. Hearing her narrate it made it extra special too! I think Jane is an amazing woman, role model and has had one exciting, fascinating life! And she's not done yet! ;)

I liked it, but doesn't compare to Th Glass Castle
Revisado: 08-06-16
I really enjoyed hearing about Rosemary's upbringing on the ranch told by her mother Lily (it's shocking that Rosemary grew up to be as "wacky" as she did because she had a lovely, adventurous childhood on the ranch). Enjoyed hearing how Rosemary and Rex met in more details and their early life together and as they began to have their kids. Enjoyed hearing about Lily's life and trials as a woman rancher. A strong, amazing woman but this book doesn't hold a candle to the amazing story that The Glass Castle is. I was hoping it would but it didn't. If you loved The Glass Castle, I think you'd like hearing about Rosemary's childhood told by her mother and how their life was back then. I'd recommend it, just go in knowing that you'll like The Glass Castle more ;)

Fun listen, loved the voices
Revisado: 08-06-16
A fairly quick and fun listen, loved the voices and the water splashes, etc. Too cute! The narration (and sounds) really brought the book to life. Interesting and insightful story for sure. I was reading this for a book club at work and it really illustrates what a corporate culture can be like and how teams need to work together for one common goal. Worth a listen!

Amazing! Best relationship book hands down!
Revisado: 08-06-16
Amazing listen, BEST relationship book hands-down! I love Matthew's advice and perspective and willingness to share his dating secrets about the opposite sex with us! His stories, advice and examples were so refreshing and helpful (and insightful, haha), makes me want to go to one of Matthew's seminars to hear more and meet him. What a cool guy that has carved a path for himself coaching women like this. He really cares! What his guy friends must think of his job is another story ;) aka sharing the secrets of the opposite sex! Lol. I'm grateful for Matthew's willingness to share this advice....listen to this book as soon as you possibly can!!!
