Totally implausible
Revisado: 12-17-24
Most ridiculous plot line and totally unrealistic. The characters are annoying and unrelatable and I didn’t care what happened to them. No character development whatsoever. The double twist at the end was so far fetched.

Historia
Documentary filmmaker Alice Lindstedt has been obsessed with the vanishing residents of the old mining town, dubbed “The Lost Village”, since she was a little girl. In 1959, her grandmother’s entire family disappeared in this mysterious tragedy, and ever since, the unanswered questions surrounding the only two people who were left - a woman stoned to death in the town center and an abandoned newborn - have plagued her. She’s gathered a small crew of friends in the remote village to make a film about what really happened.

Most idiotic listen ever. I have over 500 audiobooks in my library and this is my second most hated. Lackluster plot, boring characters and huge plot holes- nothing got resolved. Glad I listed for free. Don’t even waste your time on this - much better stories in the plus catalog

Wow! Just……WOW!!!
Revisado: 07-16-24
I loved absolutely ever about this audiobook! The narrator, the story, the plots, the character development. It’s been awhile since I’ve enjoyed a book this much. Even made me cry a little towards the end. Phenomenal writing! To take a story, starting in the 70’s, and following through to 2001, with total meaningful clarity the entire way, was just amazing on the park of the author. Can’t rave about this one enough!

Historia
Sisters Anna and Jennie live in a historic bungalow on the Chicago River. They’re tethered to a disquieting past, and with nowhere else to go, nothing can part them from their family home. Not the maddening creaks and disembodied voices that rattle the old walls. Not the inexplicable drownings in the area, or the increasing number of bodies that float by Anna’s window. To stave off loneliness, Anna has a podcast, spinning ghostly tales of Chicago’s tragic history. But when Anna captures the attention of an ardent male listener, she awakens to the possibilities of a world outside.

Terrible story with jumbled plot
Revisado: 01-25-24
I kept waiting for this to get better but it never did. I had 3 hours left and gave up. I tried to skip to the end, but by that point, I didn’t even care about the characters enough to see it through. No character development whatsoever, The characters are all unlikable, totally outlandish plot line, disjointed story telling, and the author didn’t make me feel one way or another about anything, except my hatred for the book. I’m requesting my credit back on this one.

Historia
Hundreds of feet beneath the ocean's surface, a graveyard waits. Years ago, the SS Arcadia vanished without a trace during a routine voyage. Though a strange, garbled emergency message was broadcast, neither the ship nor any of its crew could be found. Sixty years later, its wreck has finally been discovered more than three hundred miles from its intended course: a silent graveyard deep beneath the ocean's surface, eagerly waiting for the first sign of life.

Just ok
Revisado: 11-19-23
The narrator speaks so slowly and so low that I found myself not interested right away, but hoping it would get better. It never did. This book lacked the excitement and suspense that other Coates’ stories have. Not impressed

When UK authors set a book in the US
Revisado: 02-12-23
Takes me right out of the story when I hear words like: highstreet, straightaway, tarmac and plaited. Americans don’t say these words and especially not in NY. It’s a bummer that the author didn’t do her research. Also, it really bugged me that she used the word “illegible” (which pertains to writing), when she meant “inaudible” since she was talking about not being able to hear something. Wow.
