Persephone and Hades are engaged. In retaliation, Demeter summons a snowstorm that cripples New Greece and refuses to lift the blizzard unless her daughter calls off her engagement. When the Olympians intervene, Persephone finds her future in the hands of ancient gods, and they are divided. Do they allow Persephone to marry Hades and go to war with Demeter or prohibit their union and take up arms against the God of the Dead?

good but a few things kinda bothered me.
Revisado: 10-21-24
the things that bothered me wernt enough to make me stop listening. at times the narrator is really breathy and almost whispers when she is speaking as fmc and mmc but normal volume as everyone else in the conversation, really annoying.
right now I'm listening to a scene where a game called Egyptian rat screw is being explained... author is wrong about rules for that game.
Also... Persephone must be really stupid, she doesn't seem to learn from mistakes, always jumping to conclusions, not even considering listening to hades (for lack of better word) advise, and how many times does one of those dogs need to lead her into danger before she stops following them... she's an idiot sometimes.
I roll my eyes constantly when Persephone is sharing her pov... she's immature and petty

so much potential... so much of a waste
Revisado: 12-14-23
The "plot" seemed like it would have been a good story... if only the plot wouldn't have shifted to how attracted the MC is to 3 different men. I should have stopped in the beginning when everything, literally everything, went against the MCs training. It was like every decision she made went against the training and she knew it yet still made the choices she did. This would have been a great read if she would have stuck to her training I guess lol

Historia
Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College-Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

a wild dragon ride till the end
Revisado: 11-17-23
First of alI, I love the narrator Rebecca Soler in everything ive heard but this book blows all her other performances away. The way Soler brings the characters to life and pours her heart into the emotions of the characters is amazing.
This title kept me wanting more and more. I primarily listen at work and found myself getting irritated when things would force me to press pause.
There was really only one time I was exasperated with Voilet and Xaden and their constant bickering but after continuing a little further I realized that was intentional and Violet makes a comment about why are they having the same fight over and over again.
For those who are wondering about the "dirty" scenes... yes, they are still there and if you couldn't handle the way it was presented in Fourth Wing you definitely wouldn't like those parts in this book... personally I think they were flippin amazing!
Very well done Rebecca Yarros, you have written what is turning out to be probably my favorite series! Keep em coming!

listen to the first and last hours only...
Revisado: 10-04-23
this title is available for free with my audible membership... if it wasn't I'd be a bit harsher with my review.
I was intrigued by the main characters upbringing and excited to see some of her training in action... that was disappointing. we only see her combat abilities once and it wasn't even really that epic. Lara mostly uses her training to drug people (or consider drugging them) She doesn't do any of her own investigating in the enemy kingdom, just swallows everything her tutors (and father, who she knows is ruthless and cruel) tell her. Not a very interesting character. The enemy kingdoms king, Aryn isn't much better. He says he figured she was a spy and yet he gives her the freedom to roam around his home. He talks about his country's defenses in front of her and even takes her to places a person who isn't part of the army should be.
The events were predictable, the "love story" wasn't organic, it was like the two just decided they were in love.
I was expecting to hear of other character(s) well before we finally did and when we finally DID hear from them it was starting to actually get good the book ended. I'm all about a cliff hanger ending but this was like a slap in the face. The build up to the ending wasn't really worth it... in my opinion I could have listened to the first hour and the last hour of the book and not have been lost at all.

mehh...
Revisado: 05-04-23
Probably my least favorite in the series (not counting the 1/2 books) but I really enjoyed the other ones so I had to finish it. For me, this book did nothing for or against the series as a whole. I guess I felt like the entire book was written just to give Alex a happily ever after. I felt that way about the last book and John but not as strongly as this one... probably because John is a MB native. I was debating on not wasting a credit on this because things had already tied together a nice ending in Cordelias book and now that I'm done I kinda wish I hadn't bothered.

Historia
A posthumous recipient of the World Fantasy Award for Lifetime Achievement, Marion Zimmer Bradley reinvented - and rejuvenated - the King Arthur mythos with her extraordinary Mists of Avalon series. In this epic work, Bradley follows the arc of the timeless tale from the perspective of its previously marginalized female characters: Celtic priestess Morgaine, Gwenhwyfar, and High Priestess Viviane.

A different and refreshing take on king Arthur
Revisado: 03-30-22
told from mainly the point of view of the women in king Arthur's life, who are usually painted as the villains, this collection is a breath of fresh air in the old story. There are times when you sympathize with all the characters and at the same time you can't believe how incredibly naive most seem to be. At first I was getting fed up with all the Christian beliefs (not being a religious person at all I wanted to shout at some of the characters) but that aspect of the story was tempered nicely by the Druid beliefs.

ummm...?
Revisado: 11-13-21
am I supposed to hate every character except the "creature"???
Not at all what the summary suggest. Not even scary or surprising.
This book is about a family in a small town and their dramas. Mostly about a wretched matriarch and the horrible way she treats her family, mostly her daughter in law. I will continue listening hoping the creature will kill her.

Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Revisado: 05-21-21
when i first clicked play i couldn't believe how long it was taking the reader to get words out... I was soooo bored.
I'm pretty sure the publishing company slowed down the reading... for some reason???
anyway... play this book at 1.10x or 1.15x and you'll notice it sounds much more natural.
the narrator does pretty good. Not the greatest at making characters sound unique but I've definitely heard worse.
story is good so far.
