Another Perspective

4 out of 5 stars

I really enjoy this work and found it works well in its audio format. It presents plausible arguments as to why America is such an easy target and so reviled.

It also presents internal social problems that French society faces that are not unlike the problems we face in America though we may have been led to romantize into thinking that it doesn't happen in Europe and is only due to the evils of American life. However, I do wonder if there is a bit of romantization of America by a Frenchman. After all, the grass is always greener on the other side.

Whatever the case may be, I did find the work very informative and its points well argued and supported. It really touches on the heart of the real battle which is socialism & communism versus capitalism & free market economics though there's also the issue of French arrogance which supercedes the conflicting ideologies.

This book also touches on very current issues that we are facing today including the issue of terrorism and has a lot of provocative statements without the blinders of political correctness. Whether you agree or disagree with the author's point of view, the book still presents a look into a part of French society and is worth a listen.

Focus on the Mother's Psyche

Total
5 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-14-05

This work focuses on the experience of motherhood through the eyes of mothers, though primarily from the author, and throughout the whole gambit of a child's emotional and physical development (from conception to teenage years). I enjoy the narrative style which translates very well to audio format and is easy to follow. The balance of presenting factual and anecdotal information allows me to relate to it on a more personal and emotional level than I would have reading some of the other how-to or parenting books. I especially like how this book unabashedly presents the possible feelings a mother might have towards their child without being judgemental or devoid of compassion. Because the work touchs the complete development of a child from conception and entrance into adulthood, I realize how fleeting and precious my child's infancy is and wished this book was out during my pregancy rather than after it. It really gives me perspective in that I also feel that time goes fast instead of just knowing that it does. I recommend this book to would-be mothers and current mothers alike and plan on buying this book for my library.
