Historia
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep: They become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place.... The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease.

I'm partial to King but great plot
Revisado: 03-28-18
What made the experience of listening to Sleeping Beauties the most enjoyable?
The exploration of the idea of a world without women and at the same time that nagging good and bad exploration.
What other book might you compare Sleeping Beauties to and why?
I am not habitually a SF reader so it's hard to tell
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No it spoils the looking forward to-ing
Any additional comments?
Well written, well imagined and always surprising, I recommend it

Any additional comments?
Despite clearly illogical and dumb decisions, the main character is under the influence of Murphy's law... up to the end. Entertaining despite all. You keep thinking it cannot get any worse but it does without seeing it coming. I will definitely check out this writer

A bit too glossy and too clean for me
Revisado: 08-10-14
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
it's just not plausible, story's ok. I would have expected at least the characters to be more credible. Love doesn't solve every childhood wound and one cannot be that good in everything, it's just too much of everything.
What do you think your next listen will be?
Jojo Moyes, Jodi Picoult, Gillian Flynn or a good murder story but no Nora Roberts for a time.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes good
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
it has rythm and keeps you hooked

Historia
>When South African conservationist Lawrence Anthony was asked to accept a herd of "rogue" wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, his common sense told him to refuse. But he was the herd's last chance of survival: they would be killed if he wouldn't take them. In order to save their lives, Anthony took them in. In the years that followed he became a part of their family. And as he battled to create a bond with the elephants, he came to realize that they had a great deal to teach him about life, loyalty, and freedom.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes very "dépaysant" which means by change of scenery it clears your head. Although the main character seems to be on top of everything, often, the story is realistic, probably true and really interesting. The insight into animal behaviour is a discovery for me
What did you like best about this story?
Introspection into animal behaviour
Which scene was your favorite?
When the elephant decides not to charge the owner of the reserve
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This would take me hours... I'll go back to books sorry

Impressive, as if you were there
Revisado: 07-23-14
What did you like best about The Pillars of the Earth? What did you like least?
You can imagine living in such times. Not always so pleasant. Sometimes a bit longish and the bad characters are very bad (not nuanced) which borders on simplistic at times. My first Follett, I'd love to try another in a different time period.
Would you be willing to try another book from Ken Follett? Why or why not?
Yes but not the second one yet. It is said to be of exactly the same vein.
Would you listen to another book narrated by John Lee?
Yes it was very impressive. Acting really
Do you think The Pillars of the Earth needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It seems to me a difficult tasks to follow the different generations and in this story it seemed to me all was said... except the construction of the cathedral

Most entertaining
Revisado: 07-23-14
What did you like best about Emily and Einstein? What did you like least?
The relationship between reincarnated boyfriend and main character. Hilarious in a not so funny story. Depicts people not always on their best side which is refreshing.
Would you be willing to try another book from Linda Francis Lee? Why or why not?
Yes definitely, this was my first one at a sale
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
Can't think of anything
Was Emily and Einstein worth the listening time?
Definitely. Could do all my cleaning with her stories
Any additional comments?
Some events in the story are forseeable and slightly cliched but totally acceptable. Lovely comprehension of the way the male gender works, hilariously spot on at times

Historia
When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, he discovers that Quine's disappearance is no coincidence. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows. If the novel were published, it would ruin lives - meaning that almost everyone in his life would have motives to silence him.

Always a surprise
Revisado: 07-23-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes, you can't guess what's next. Very good rythm
What other book might you compare The Silkworm to and why?
of course the first of the series with detective Strike The Cuckoo's Calling which has the same charasteristics. Quite realistic when depicting emotions and above all life's issues of the characters.
What about Robert Glenister’s performance did you like?
Good at accents, be it Northern England or American or Australian, it always baffles me
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No not quite, but can't put it down all the same
Any additional comments?
May be a bit dark at times. All characters of Rowling post Potter, be it in Casual Vacancy or after are torn by their contradictions. A bit heavy at times

Brilliant.... and so sad
Revisado: 08-01-13
Where does Me Before You rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In my five best ever
What did you like best about this story?
The tackling of a grave subject : euthanasia
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Never read her before but am about to read "the last letter from your lover"
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Cry... buckets Absolutely brilliant that despite the obvious love between the two main characters, she has not fallen into the sticky sweet trap of a happy ending.
Any additional comments?
Well researched and well directed, her ideas never fall into easy opinions or too much religion rectitude, the subjects are grave and still the whole story has a certain joy. Joy of living of the girl protagonist. An absolute discovery for me. A book one grieves when it's finished!
Living in a country in which euthanasia is tolerated, i never thought much about the opinion of people in other countries. Interestiing. Nor does it mean it is absolutely the right thing to approve. But in some circumstances it is a right to defend, even if it still constitutes a luxury (costwise). Mind you if your illness has an effect whatsoever on your mental capabilities, your right to terminate your life is immediatly withdrawn.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Good and clever, as they say a page turner
Revisado: 03-12-13
Would you try another book from Ruth Rendell and/or Simon Russell Beale?
Ruth Rendell yes I remember I read some younger but there are so many good writers.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Keys to the Street?
The way the author handles the abused person and the bully.
What three words best describe Simon Russell Beale’s voice?
pleasant in character
Do you think The Keys to the Street needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
not necessarily, I think the main character has had enough adventure.
Any additional comments?
Compared to lots of others the sound was bad. As if copied from tape. Somehow muffled.
