This was a good place to start. Was distracted by the odd (to me) pronunciations of certain words but I think the narrator was Canadian. Then the mispronunciations continued as if the narrator wasn’t even paying attention and there was apparently no editor around to notice. But, it allowed me to listen while I drove so there’s that. If bad or sloppy enunciations get on your nerves, then skip the Audible version and just get the kindle version.

Great introduction to the AR. I especially treasure the prayers at the end of the book.

What a great story. Nailed the descriptions of Atlanta, and all the nuances. The performance was top notch. I listened to the book a year ago, but still think about it often.

As with Christopher McDougall's previous works, it's a fascinating story, humorously written. McDougall is so adept at spinning a great story. As for his talents as a narrator... not so much. Odd, broken cadence. It's much easier to read his printed words than it is to listen to his tortured timing. Worth it to get through the great story, and the many interesting sidebars. But next time, McDougall, let a professional do the narrating.

So many metaphors and similes that I want to cross stitch on a pillow and keep forever. Great narrator performance. Captivating, unpredictable storyline. As soon as I finished this, I immediately listened again with my husband on a long road trip. Now he's hooked. More than worth the paltry credit you'd spend for any audiobook.

If you're a pro or elite athlete, then you might benefit from this book. Fair warning, you should listen to the sample audio first, just to make sure you can understand the Scottish dialects, especially Lesley's narration. (Note: if you hear them say "re-juice" what they are actually saying is "reduce." "Fook" means "fuck." Seriously. I laughed out loud when I heard them swear, which is frequently.)
I'm not an elite, but I'm an experienced endurance athlete and trying to come back after an injury. It was discouraging to hear each chapter start out with the author heaping scorn upon other methods (for coping with pre-race jitters and anxiety) -- many of which I've tried with varying degrees of success -- and then for the chapter to end up with just another version of another idea that's not so new. Also, I heard maybe 5 or 6 derisive references to "your local 5K Turkey Trot," then I just gave up listening. Sorry Simon and Lesley, but that's where I'm starting out again after a long recovery. It might not be a relevant or important goal for you or your clients, but it's an important next step for me.
The book is unique in that it employs plenty of tough talk and swearing, which is what some people might need. I was hoping for more actionable things.

Just finished listening to this, and immediately started listening to it again. So many pearls of wisdom. if you're on the fence about whether you should purchase this, just do it. You'll forever be grateful.
