Historia
In this classic fantasy novel from author Michael Ende, small and insignificant Bastian Balthazar Bux is nobody's idea of a hero, least of all his own. Then, through the pages of an ancient, mysterious book, he discovers the enchanted world of Fantastica, and only Bastian himself can save the fairy people who live there. Shy, awkward Bastian is amazed to discover that he has become a character in the mysterious book he is reading and that he has an important mission to fulfill.

Great Performance of a Classic Story
Revisado: 03-21-25
Two Heroes Journeys in one amazing book. If you’ve seen the movies, you don’t know the Neverending Story. You’re getting less than half. Bastian is an unlikely hero, and this is a great story with subtle messages about identity, unintended consequences, and being careful what you with for.

Sanderson struggles to write romantic relationships
Revisado: 02-01-25
He is so talented at world building but all his romantic relationships seem so forced. Came to a head in this series and it really bogged down the narrative.

Historia
In this remarkable recording, C. S. Lewis shows why millions of readers have acclaimed him the greatest spokesman for Christianity in the 20th century. In a resonant, baritone voice, Lewis explores the nature of the four Greek words that are translated love in English: storge (affection), philia (friendship), eros (sexual or romantic love) and agape (selfless love).

Lewis Great, unnecessary filler
Revisado: 01-04-24
The Lewis content is excellent. The filler around it is terrible. Recommended for not only hearing Lewis’s own voice, but for deep insight into the varied forms of love.

Historia
1950: Margaret Devonshire (Megs) is a 17-year-old student of mathematics and physics at Oxford University. When her beloved eight-year-old brother asks Megs if Narnia is real, logical Megs tells him it’s just a book for children, and certainly not true. Homebound due to his illness, and remaining fixated on his favorite books, George presses her to ask the author of the recently released novel The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe a question: “Where did Narnia come from?”

Major Let-Down
Revisado: 12-12-23
First of all, this was basically a dramatized biography of C.S. Lewis, and clearly constructed around that rather than any actual attempt at storytelling. If a group of college students collaborated on writing a creative report, it would be the same level.
Second, while the narrator was a good reader overall, she was either poorly directed or did zero research. She gave both young and adult Warren and Clive Lewis strong modern northern Irish accents. And while they did have strong Ulster accents as children, they were educated in English schools, and Clive Lewis was an Oxford scholar. Recordings of him exist, and there is no trace of the Belfast accent of his youth, which would be more easily mistaken for Scottish than an Irish accent anyway!! It made this audiobook totally unlistenable.

How do you make a great book even better? Add a great narrator.
As always, you think it’s going to be a silly fantasy story, and it gets deep without getting preachy. Love it. And Nigel Planer is the perfect narrator. A master of unique voices, accents, comedic timing, and serious moments.

Historia
In these classic essays, which began as talks on the BBC during World War II, Lewis creatively and simply explains the basic tenets of Christianity. Taken from the core section of Mere Christianity, this book provides an accessible way for people to discover these timeless truths. For those looking to remind themselves of what they hold true, or those looking for a snapshot of Christianity, this book is a wonderful introduction to the faith.

Some parts are clearly repeats of Mere Christianity, which itself was a collection of essays. But the whole makes sense and the reader is excellent.

With passion and purpose, Greg Laurie and Ellen Vaughn tell the amazing true story of the Jesus Movement, an extraordinary time of mass revival, renewal, and reconciliation. Setting fascinating personal stories within the context of one of the most tumultuous times in modern history, the authors draw important parallels with our own time of spiritual apathy or outright hostility, offering hope for the next generation of unlikely believers - and for the next great American revival.

Not the Greatest, but Interesting Enough
Revisado: 04-12-23
This narrator is okay, but she drove me nuts continually pronouncing “Jesus” to rhyme with “Cheeses.” I’ve never heard it said that way.
Also, the story was circular, couched in tons of cultural context that got repetitive. It was a bit hard to follow.

Thousands of readers have come home to Mitford, the little town with the big heart, whose endearing and eccentric residents have become like family members. But now change is coming to the hamlet. Father Tim, the Episcopal rector, and his wife Cynthia are pondering retirement; a brash new mayoral candidate is calling for aggressive development; a suspicious realtor with plans for a health spa is eyeing the beloved house on the hill; and, worst of all, the Sweet Stuff Bakery may be closing.

ABRIDGED
Revisado: 02-17-23
This is a deviation from the rest of the series, which is narrated by John McDonough. The rest of the series is unabridged, and the audiobooks run upwards of 12 hours. This one is 3 hours, and narrated by the author. She does an okay job, but I hate abridged versions, especially having read and heard the unabridged in the past. Ridiculous. I don't know what rights disputes Audible might be having, but I hope they get over it soon and get the better version. I returned this unfinished.
