Grim
Revisado: 03-30-22
I felt grim foreboding throughout this book and that’s it. Could hardly finish it. It was all plot and no soul. I was not rooting for the MC nor had interest in the other characters anymore. Too bad because book 1 was so great.

Thriller only
Revisado: 09-09-21
There is backstory, action, drama, and thrilling escapes. But lacks storytelling as to why I should care for these fast allies and enemies. The world she’s saving sounds horrid and she’s unworthy herself.

Good idea, so-so execution
Revisado: 08-30-21
The first half of the book is interesting enough to overlook some confusing dialogue and plot holes. I was getting pretty excited about a new series, but then the villain dialogue turns awful and the ending is very unsatisfying. It’s confusing about which characters to care about because they are all pretty garbage. Lastly the MC continually goes against his better judgement and gets screwed. Gets old
The performer is ok. His voice range and cadence were hard to sit through at normal speed.

1st book is amazing, 2nd pretty good
Revisado: 03-24-21
Still funny and wild as the first. Wish there was more progress. 3 hours inside the book is covered in like 6 hours and kept getting more complicated and distracted. So go into it to enjoy the journey, not to see how they overcome anything because the victories usually roll them into greater danger and jadedness instead of feel goodness.

Skill, world building, some story
Revisado: 03-23-21
It’s heavy on game options and choices and medium on story. No battle and no big obstacles, which can be great, but I need more story personally. There is a lot of story potential that will probably be realized in sequels so I will probably read the next.

Historia
When a freak accident ruins his body and his memory, Wes Malcolm loses his scholarship and his place in the world. Every treatment has failed, save one: a fully immersive VR game, designed by his late, disgraced father, that mimics the condition his body used to possess. To everyone's disbelief, his body and mind slowly improve, bit by bit, but it's still not enough. Then one night, he wakes up in a world just like the game his father designed. Here, he can grow, learn, and thrive.

5 star series with rough first book
Revisado: 03-09-21
The first book is an interesting read, but gets too depressingly dark for my tastes. I want to review this one poorly, but the rest of the series is so inspirational, funny, and fun to read. If I read this again I’ll skim this one and savor the next books.

Plus, even if citizens could enter, it didn’t change the fact that Max’s body is paralyzed from the waist down, confined to a wheelchair. No way would anyone let him enter the tower. Ever.

Comic book as a novel
Revisado: 03-02-21
The story is great, but I didn’t get into the comic book dialogue and sound effects. Those parts were cheesy. Some of the fight scenes were also awkward and had holes. Case in point, if you can freeze someone and then follow up with a weak wind blast to kill them then you are a moron.

Historia
Savid DelaCrotia is the third born son of one of the Kingdom of Montshire’s oldest and most respected High families. Cast aside by his father at an early age, it’s up to him to make his own way and create his own honor. With just his horse, his weapons, the clothes on his back and in his pack, and the education that his family provided, he’ll have to go it alone. Luckily, he already has a pretty good idea of what he’s good at - fighting, and woodcraft - not to mention finding hidden and lost items.

Surprisingly mediocre
Revisado: 05-06-20
John writes THE BEST sarcastic characters, action, guns, and romance. It sets his books apart. Unfortunately very little of this is in the book.
The setup, lore, and mystery is engaging so do give it a shot.
That didn’t give me enough to stay interested in the last half of the book though. I think he skips over the stories where you get to understand the chemistry between characters leaving me not caring that much about them. I certainly didn’t appreciate the kick in the balls ending.

Where do you go when you die? If you guessed "a hellish videogame world where you're forced to fight for your life, solve puzzles, and sustain mortal injury only to be stitched back together to do it again", congratulations! Maybe that sounds kind of bad. But hear me out. Superpowers. Beautiful women at my side, some human and some decidedly not so much. And maybe, just maybe, if I survive long enough, I can find out what comes after the afterlife.

Potential lost
Revisado: 04-11-20
The premise is interesting, but the execution is so so.
The characters have enough backstory, there are mysteries to solve, and the MC is on the brink of death every other second. Plus the romance is handled well with the first character. The second is rushed.
The boring parts have to do with the constant descriptions of the agony or the pleasure or the bizarreness being “the most I’ve ever experienced” with more words like that than detail. And the MC lucks through way too much. They screw around for 80% of the time and pull out smart moves in the last 5 seconds.

Mediocre
Revisado: 03-21-20
The performance and inventiveness of this world is well done. But the story telling and dialogue is boring and cliche. The author is trying to setup a huge world and backstory, but it’s just not entertaining enough to care.
