Historia
What made a prominent conspiracy-theorist YouTuber finally see that 9/11 was not a hoax? Can you finally have a productive conversation about politics with your uncle at the next family gathering? How does an ordinary person find the courage to leave a cult? Can widespread social change only take place when a generation dies out?

Helpful in handling clashing views
Revisado: 09-20-24
Changed my perspective on arguments and disagreements. Offers up a more humane approach to handling conflicting beliefs that is much more effective than butting heads or cutting ties. Highly recommended.

Historia
Pontzer's groundbreaking studies with hunter-gatherer tribes show how exercise doesn't increase our metabolism. Instead, we burn calories within a very narrow range: nearly 3,000 calories per day, no matter our activity level. This was a brilliant evolutionary strategy to survive in times of famine. Now it seems to doom us to obesity. The good news is we can lose weight, but we need to cut calories. Refuting such weight-loss hype as paleo, keto, anti-gluten, anti-grain, and even vegan, Pontzer discusses how all diets succeed or fail: For shedding pounds, a calorie is a calorie.

Useful for Calories in vs Out Perspective
Revisado: 12-06-23
The author does a good job emphasizing evidence to support the well known idea that you can’t out train a bad diet and that caloric surplus will lead to weight gain. He asserts strongly that exercise does not help with weight loss, but I wish he would have provided more clarification as to wether body fat percentage or waist measurements were affected in the studies he references, as “weight loss” is very vague. If diet, weight loss, and overall health is your goal I strongly recommend you instead check out books like Fiber Fueled or How Not To Die. Much more impactful and life changing in my personal opinion, but to each their own.

Historia
An award-winning historian tells the story of hunting in America, showing how this sport has shaped our national identity. From Daniel Boone to Teddy Roosevelt, hunting is one of America's most sacred - but also most fraught - traditions. It was promoted in the 19th century as a way to reconnect "soft" urban Americans with nature and to the legacy of the country's pathfinding heroes. Fair chase, a hunting code of ethics emphasizing fairness, rugged independence, and restraint towards wildlife, emerged as a worldview and gave birth to the conservation movement.

A Rich Journey Into The Story Of American Hunting
Revisado: 04-10-22
Well written, narrated, and very thought provoking. The characters and events in history that made hunting what it is today come to life in an immersive and beautiful way. The history of the dire need for hunting conservation and it’s fascinating origin are well illustrated. The author provides an in depth look at how arts, printed press, and political forces came together to influence hunting culture. The text concludes, as many historical texts do, with the author’s hypothesis for the future of American hunting based on his interpretation of the past. Very thought provoking and insightful!
