Historia
Kate Marshall was a promising young police detective when she caught the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. But her greatest victory suddenly turned into a nightmare. Traumatized, betrayed, and publicly vilified for the shocking circumstances surrounding the cannibal murder case, Kate could only watch as her career ended in scandal. Fifteen years after those catastrophic events, Kate is still haunted by the unquiet ghosts of her troubled past. Now a lecturer at a small coastal English university, she finally has a chance to face them.

Für mich zu dark & bloody
Revisado: 01-08-24

For those who like it dark and gruesome
Revisado: 10-22-23
The book is well written, the storyline twisted and the end entirely unexpected.
The narrators did a marvelous job.
It is still not my cup of tea and I will not return to this author.
In my perception, I've been held captive in a very dark, gruesome, and twisted story without redeeming positive aspects.
For me, it has been an interesting but depressing journey. I will not visit again.

Immer wieder,
Revisado: 08-27-23

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

I couldn't listen to the end
Revisado: 06-30-23
Lately, I had read some books by Anni Taylor that I really liked. However, this title got on my nerves. A young photographer is wandering endlessly through the Scottish countryside with no trace of meaning or context. The people involved act unbelievably, and therefore, the whole course of the story is challenging for me to comprehend. After two-thirds, I left the oppressive Scottish atmosphere and was annoyed that I had invested so much time—a pity. I wanted to like it.

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on.

I loved it and it was never boring in spite of the length. Actually, I was surprised when I realized just now how many listening hours this book provides. It was a pleasure to enjoy it. Hopefully, there will be a next one in the series soon. The people come to life and there are stories within stories. And thankfully it was not so gruesome I had to skip forward. I think I'll listen to it again very soon to fully appreciate the book and the narrator.

Liked it better than anticipated,
Revisado: 03-14-16
after I had a hard time getting into it, I liked this book really well. It took me three starts to get into the flow of this story.
The world building starts out very slow and explanations could have come much more early on.
Another distraction: the narrator gave a lot of characters grating or high pitched voices, so bad that I've been switching to my Kindle in between.
But:
Storm in a Teacup is overall very entertaining, has fresh ideas. The main characters are likeable, there are no explicit sex scenes, but heartwarming intimate ones.
The book improves in the second half, the story as well as the narration.
So glad I stuck with it, and I am on my way to hear the second one in the series right now.

Historia
The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity - and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and when her work with the cryptid community took her to Manhattan, she thought she would finally be free to pursue competition-level dance in earnest. It didn't quite work out that way...

Seanan McGuire rocks...
Revisado: 03-09-13
I listen to a lot of urban fantasy, and having done so a lot of story lines grow old.
This series is refreshingly different in many ways. Not everything seems logical but it is not disturbingly so.
This second book after "Discount Armageddon" is even better - it has it all: lots of never heard of fantastical creatures with different abilities, suspense, action, fights, family, feelings and a bit of romance (which wasn't overdone) and of course a lovable heroine.
The story is highly entertaining and I kept listening without my thoughts wandering off.
I couldn't have wished for anything different in the narration. Refreshing and fitting.
Now I am hoping for a third book in the series in the not to far future.
As I think to be able to value reviews for oneself it would be good to know this listener's preferences, so some of my favorite UF authors are:
Kim Harrison (The Hollows)
Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels)
Jennifer Estep (Elemental Assassin)
Faith Hunter (Jane Yellowrock)
Kevin Hearne (The Iron Druid Chronicles)
Rachel Caine (Weather Warden)
Molly Harper
Charlaine Harris
and so on...

Historia
When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything—or anyone—that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case.

Entertaining Urban Fantasy
Revisado: 11-17-12
What made the experience of listening to Dead Spots the most enjoyable?
This was an entertaining story with a new angle and I was pleasantly surprised. There are the usual vampires and werewolves, but with Scarlett there's a new aspect to the interaction. The main characters are well defined and as the book progresses, more background to each one is revealed.
There's a bit of romance (in the making) also, but not too much.
What about Amy McFadden’s performance did you like?
Amy McFadden's performance was just right for this story, clear and precise while giving each character definition.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did listen to it in one "sitting" - perfect for working all day in the garden.
Any additional comments?
Easy listening Urban Fantasy - I anticipate the next book in this series and hope Audible will add it as soon as it comes out - I would like to go on listening right now...

Historia
I used to murder people for money, but lately it’s become more of a survival technique. Once an assassin, always an assassin. So much for being plain old Gin Blanco. With every lowlife in Ashland gunning for me, I don’t need another problem, but a new one has come to town anyway. Salina might seem like a sweet Southern belle, but she’s really a dangerous enemy whose water elemental magic can go head-to-head with my own Ice and Stone power.

Love this series
Revisado: 08-24-12
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If urban fantasy is one of your favorite genres you'll love the Elemental Assassin series. Book 7 is no exception - all of them are equally good. They have it all: fantasy, adventure, action, magic, romance, friendship, - storytelling at it's best!
What about Lauren Fortgang’s performance did you like?
Lauren Fortgang does a superb job at narrating - her voice is very clear and understandable (English is not my first language) - yet the characters are very distinct. I very much like her voice, as it is not so high pitched as some other female voices to make my ears hurt. Her voice has character and it is very pleasant to me.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The books of this series always take me with them completely - be it suspense, emotion, the tale itself.... very enjoyable but not too much (there are some other books I have to put aside because I can't stand the upheaval any more...)
Any additional comments?
Wonderful entertainment - highly recommended!
