Historia
Kate is a pop culture commentator and host of the popular millennial-focused podcast Be There in Five. Part-funny, part-serious, Kate navigates the complicated nature of celebrating and criticizing the culture that shaped her as a woman, while arguing that great depths can come from surface-level interests. With her trademark style and vulnerability, One in a Millennial is sharp, hilarious, and heartwarming all at once. She tackles AOL Instant Messenger, purity culture, American Girl Dolls, going out tops, Spice Girl feminism, her feelings about millennial motherhood, and more.

Incredibly relatable!
Revisado: 02-02-24
This book was absolutely perfect. I laughed. I cried. I felt so understood. I wish I had more time to craft a perfect review, because that is what this book deserves. But I’m going to take advantage of reviewing hopefully early enough for Kate to read it. Kate - I am a younger millennial (a zellenial, if you will), but I related to every single sentiment in this book and I have a feeling that many women will relate to it for generations to come. There are life experiences that I could have never put into words, and you did it so beautifully. I might have officially grown up during a time of early Facebook messenger rather than AIM, but I can relate all the same. This book made me feel proud to just be me - a woman moving through this word and trying my best, all while listening to Taylor swift with my basic Starbucks order in hand. I’m also proud of the little me I once was, and for the many things I have in common with so many wonderful women around me. Thank you for the heart and soul you put into this book. I can’t wait to re listen to it again in the future.

Historia
Carrie Soto is fierce, and her determination to win at any cost has not made her popular. But by the time she retires from tennis, she is the best player the world has ever seen. She has shattered every record and claimed twenty Grand Slam titles. And if you ask Carrie, she is entitled to every one. She sacrificed nearly everything to become the best, with her father, Javier, as her coach. A former champion himself, Javier has trained her since the age of two.

I am now a tennis fan
Revisado: 09-06-22
As many of the reviews have mentioned - it is A LOT of tennis. But it’s also so much more. If you are a person who has ever made it their life’s mission to accomplish one goal, this book is for you. If you are a woman or you have a woman in your life who inspires you, this book is for you. If you have either coach or a parental figure in your life whose guidance and support you owe everything to, this book is for you. As a former swimmer, I knew nothing about tennis going into this book. But the drive, the determination, the defiance of gender roles and social norms? Now that I understood. Beautifully written.

I laughed. I cried. I want more.

I wish I could do Julia Whelan justice by writing a review that perfectly encapsulates just how incredible I think she is as both a writer and a narrator. But I don’t have the words, so I’ll leave it at this. If you want a rom com that also explores deep concepts and complex friendships and relationships, you’ll love this book. Julia Whelan narrating her own writing is just the icing on the cake.
