Excellent Book
Revisado: 07-31-19
Elizabeth Spring's book sheds light on the North Node being one of the most important aspect of any astrological chart. It has resonated deeply with my own practice and had a profound effect on many of the people I have worked with in astrology. Years have passed since my first reading and I still find it to be incredibly relevant and inspiring.

My Favorite Dickens Novel, Brilliantly Narrated
Revisado: 10-05-14
What made the experience of listening to The Old Curiosity Shop the most enjoyable?
The humor, especially as captured by Anton Lesser's narration. Also the characters and settings are so varied and baroque.
What other book might you compare The Old Curiosity Shop to and why?
As compared to other Dickens novels, this is one of the darkest. But the characters are really all so surreal and colorful. I think it's the most interesting.
What does Anton Lesser bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He's a great narrator all around, but his humor especially might be his strong suit. His grasp of many different British speech patterns, many of them antiquated, were richer than I could have imagined because of my limited knowledge in regard to these.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Basically everything involving Kit. His relationship with his family and his affection for his masters the Gardeners especially.

Historia
In this, perhaps Dickens' most profound and personal novel, we are invited to share in the sentimental education of Pip, the poor boy from the village forge who risks losing himself in snobbery and selfishness when he mysteriously inherits a fortune. The story moves from the bleak Kentish marshes of Pip's childhood to a thrilling climax that mingles tragedy and triumph.

Great Book & Genius Narrator
Revisado: 10-05-14
Where does Great Expectations rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
One of the top.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Miss Havisham because of her surrealistic quality.
Which character – as performed by Anton Lesser – was your favorite?
Anton Lesser is brilliant as all the charactres and has an amazing grasp on Dickens' dialog and the subtleties of its humor. But I especially liked his portrayal of Wemmick.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Pip leaving Joe was the most moving, but also his climactic confrontation of Estella.

What did you like best about Demian? What did you like least?
I never write a bad review. But this masterpiece of a book is ruined here. Worst narration I've ever encountered, and the translation is also inferior.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Demian?
'Demian' is a beautiful and powerful book, breaching spiritual and existential complexities that are still confounding and taboo in our current culture. It's profound, mystical, erotic and communicates highly esoteric topics expertly and poetically.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator mispronounces words that any school child would know, and speaks for the characters in absurd affectations of voice. His inflection is monotone and unintelligent. Not suitable for such an important book.

Mitch Horowitz presents a meticulously researched, compulsively listenable history of the mystical and spiritual experience in our country. Focusing on the impact that the 19-century movements of Freemasonry, Spiritualism, and transcendentalism have had on America, Horowitz portrays a colorful cast of characters as he explains the origins of the Ouija board, the political influence of Spiritualism on the Senate, and the source of the mysterious slogan on the back of the dollar bill.

Very Interesting and Thorough.....
Revisado: 10-02-11
Where does Occult America rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Since books on occultism are very rare in audiobook form, it is difficult to find good ones. The chapters in this book seemed like it might have been dull, but it was not. Even to someone well versed in occult history, there was a wealth of information explored very intimately here. A good achievement in esoteric literature.
What other book might you compare Occult America to and why?
Peter Levenda's "The Secret Temple" is very similar. It is also somewhat juicier and written from a more esoteric perspective. "Cults, Conspiracies, and Secret Societies" by Arthur Goldwag covers more material but is not quite as in-depth.
What does Paul Michael Garcia bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is sort of the ideal narrator because he reads in a way that is very matter-of-fact without too much inflection to influence the tone f the actual text.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
"Little known streams of occult philosophy and activity operating within infuential circles and movements in occult history."

Historia
Quentin Coldwater is brilliant but miserable. A senior in high school, he's still secretly preoccupied with a series of fantasy novels he read as a child, set in a magical land called Fillory. Imagine his surprise when he finds himself unexpectedly admitted to a very secret, very exclusive college of magic in upstate New York, where he receives a thorough and rigorous education in the craft of modern sorcery.

Worthwhile and enjoyable
Revisado: 10-02-11
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It was a bit tedious at times. Its failed attempts at being hip were a bit corny. The erotic element in the book wasn't really explored well.
Would you be willing to try another book from Lev Grossman? Why or why not?
Yes. The story was compelling and its take on magic was unique, even though plot motifs borrowed heavily from Harry Potter and Narnia.
What three words best describe Mark Bramhall’s voice?
Expressive and efficient...sometimes verging on the brink of over-doing it.
Do you think The Magicians needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
There already is one.
