Absolutely delightful and hilarious. Love the relationship between the sisters and the resolution of the traumatic losses. The romance was on fire.

Forward by Abby Wambach is an inside look at a woman who has a hard time letting go of control, cannot have faith in others, and learn to love herself and know that she is worthy of love. Soccer is always there for her, even when she doesn’t want it to be. Soccer fans will love the recounting of her championships, Olympics, and more, but these are wider examples of her need for adrenaline and attention. Wambach struggles to be alone and love herself, but she never really recognizes this in the memoir. I think with more distance and further reflection, she would have written a deeper memoir.

What I did find interesting were the yarns about his childhood and his early House years, including his assessment of Sen. Ted Kennedy and others. Some of these stories seem a bit inflated, but that’s typical with memoirs focused on making the speaker sound more upright and honest than they may have been. We all want to remember our past actions in the best light.

On the House: A Washington Memoir by John Boehner is his review of his time in the House from his early years scrapping his way to the top and as Speaker of the House, one of the most powerful positions in government. What I got out of this is that you are only as powerful as the relationships you build and the consensus you can achieve through those relationships. But don't let power go to your head.

Less about Creativity, more about moving forward

This is more a book about moving forward beyond loss, accepting change, and looking for areas where growth and goodness can be. Don't fall into the depression trap -- keep moving. The narration was too much of "poet voice" that had a halting cadence, which I found distracting.

I enjoyed the narration by McConaughey. He tells his own story well. Did I find this entertaining, yes. Did I learn anything? Not sure I learned more than what I already know, but I did like his approach to Hollywood and rebranding himself as an actor. Well played. Do I think he's privileged to live the life he has, yes. Do I think he knows that -- yes, to an extent. I was entertained, it's something to take me away from these times of lockdowns, pandemics, and American selfishness (though he clearly is above the problems the rest of us wrangle with and his advice seems too simplistic to be used by non-Hollywood people).

This was a creepy ghost story, though some bits were predictable. Enjoyable overall. The narrator has the right timbre for these kinds of stories. He created the right amount of creep for this.

I felt like this was only about eroticism and exploration of sex and little character development. The relationship between Finn and Lily is only hinted at for the most part and much of the novella is in the bedroom. The narrators were fine, it was the story that was lacking for me.

I couldn’t listen to this. The narrator was too robotic. This was not a pleasant experience.

The Child by Jan Hahn, narrated by Neil Roy McFarlane, was a treat in terms of ingenuity on the part of the author and her rendering of the characters given the situation they found themselves in. Without giving too much away, Elizabeth and Darcy have even more obstacles to overcome, especially as Wickham plays a pivotal role in what could keep them apart forever.
