“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

Loved it all!
Revisado: 06-15-24
Ok so, excellent stories, my favorite by far is The Answer Man, followed closely by Rattlesnake. I enjoyed Wierd Willie as well, but feel that that could have been a great novel, maybe on the save vine as IT if it wasn’t so short.
The only hang up I have is Will Patton. I love him all and all but sometimes his voice is just too soft and even slight background noise can drown out his voice. But he brings heart, would, and personality to each one of the characters and he does it well.

Over all a good Trek Story

Story was ok, bad Narration
Revisado: 10-02-23
The story had good potential but a combination of an extremely anti-climatic finale as well as the author continually adding quotes from past movies and episodes, drove me crazy. I mean I am not against quotes, but it felt like so many were forced, and sheer amount made it feel like he was bordering on plagiarism.
The narrator clearly never saw a single Star Trek episode or movie, based on his continual mis-pronouncements of even the most basic ST words. I mean can’t they do just a little research when reading something that has a following like Star Trek, or did the publisher just want to save as much money as possible and hired the cheapest narrator they could find?

A mysterious terrorist organisation has carried out several attacks against the Federation and Klingon Empire. Tensions are running high in a region already crippled by conflict. The perpetrators are tracked to the Lembatta Cluster, a mysterious region of space whose inhabitants, the Renao, regard the Alpha Quadrant s powers as little more than conquering tyrants. A good Story read by a less than great Narrator
Revisado: 09-29-23
The story is well written, with some interesting plot points. It was more than enough to get me interested in Book 2, However the narrator seems to go between trying to vary the voices of the Characters then seems to give up reading all the characters in a boring mono-tone voice, then back again to trying to distinguish voices. Also it's clear he never watched a single episode of Star Trek, if he had he wouldn't have mispronounced a lot of key terms in the world of Star Trek. I was disappointed to see he narrates the next two books as well, but I guess we'll see if he improves at all.

Not A Haunted House Story
Revisado: 05-16-23
Sorry I try never to give spoilers but I feel the title is misleading. It is not a story about a Haunted House, it's a story about a haunted sock puppet which happens to be in a house.
That said:
The Main Character Louise, is Shallow, self-absorbed and cries about a HORRIBLE Childhood that she fled to escape, only to praise how great her parents were in the next breath. She HATES Her Brother Mark, because he's not successful, although she denies this constantly, the whole first half of the book that's what keeps coming up every time she complains about him. Then she wines like a child when she feels that he hates her! Oh and of course she's such a horrible mother because he baby got mad at her.
The Narrator is not as bad as I've read others complain about, I think she does the best she can with a bad book and bad dialog.
Honestly, Unless your into evil sock puppets, I wouldn't bother with this one.

This is a Classic?
Revisado: 08-11-22
This was the first time I read the book. I saw both the movie and Netflix series and enjoyed both very much. I thought, Hey the books are always better than the adaptations so I'll give it a shot. Honestly I was disappointed.
It feels very much so like an story that was only half told. Every character seemed underdeveloped, and Elenore is just a selfish little child who calls everyone else selfish if they don't fawn over her. Maybe it was the house's influence maybe it wasn't but it's hard to tell because we never get any clear idea as to how deeply the house is effecting her, beyond her desire to remain there. I kept having to check to make sure I wasn't reading an abridged version of the book.
It's sad because the overall story and characters do have a great deal of potential, but sadly it's potential that's never seen. There are many great, quotable lines in it, which is probably why so many authors reference the book, but for the life of me I can't see how this book is considered part of the literary greats.

First few Chapters lag (Very Mild Spoiler)
Revisado: 04-25-21
All and all it is a good story. But the first few chapters are kinda hard to get through, simply because it’s a little too mundane.
That said once the first accident occurs the story begins to pick up and by the time you’re halfway through it, it is everything that you have come to expect from Stephen King.
Stick out those first few Chapters, it’s worth it.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

All around another knockout for the King!
Revisado: 12-23-20
I have been avoiding this book for a long time due to my aversion to “Time Travel” plots. But I am an avid Stephen King fan and was running out of new stories from my favorite author. I’m glad I took the chance. I agree with the butterfly effect theory and was very glad to finally see an author take it to heart in a story.

During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Exceptional Book, Great Narration, Lousy Music!
Revisado: 11-03-20
Ok There are over 4,480 reviews so I will just say this much about the story itself... It is great no less than I expect from Stephen King! I love hearing the little nods to IT. Namely we now know what became of Mike Hanlon and hear a little Ben Hanscome as well!
What I don't like is the darn music! I hate music in Audio books as is, but whoever came up with this should be fired, the music doesn't add to the mood as intended, it distracts from the narration, and at time overpowers it! I don't listen to the radio when I read, and I doubt many others either. I don't want music in my audio books!

Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

The Narration was odd to say the least
Revisado: 11-15-19
The voices he attributed to many of the characters were a bit odd, and in some aspects just wrong. Making me picture Firenze as a highly excitable Scottish whelp as opposed to the wizened Centaur he is, and a mispronunciation of several names including Voldermort had me cringing. But by far the worst part has little to do with the author as much as the producers...Right as the story is reaching it's conclusion they start playing this elementary school style music nearly drowning out the epilog. Why can Audible get the Stephen Fry narrated version? It's much better!

Amazing story!
Revisado: 02-04-19
I was just a child not much older than Katie herself when her abduction was plastered all over the news and onto my living room tv screen. I remember my mother and father using that as an opportunity to discuss the dangers of talking to strangers and when it was revealed who actually abducted her although it was a learning experience for them as well, the wasted no time in changing our education as well, teaching us that no matter who it is we weren’t to go with them without a weekly safe word, that could be used by only a few very specific people.
Like most kids from my generation, as time went on I had forgotten the girls name, although I often wondered if she ever recovered from her experience.
I just happen to be skimming the web when I saw Katie Beers name and remembered immediately that was the name I had been trying to remember!
I am so glad to know that she not only survived but thrived!
